JMAC we had her in an apartment in downtown Minneapolis before we bought a house. She was fine, but definitely needs a run daily. Otherwise she was happy to sit out couch and beach.

I thought maybe there was a difference between you and Mark, or is the whole country relatively similar in winter?

Nah Auckland and Tauranga are generally pretty similar. It gets colder the further south you go - Watson will be a few degrees colder and Steve a few more.

Good work JMac getting through that run in those conditions.  I had the same "this feels dangerous" feeling when I was in Miami so limited each run to 10km.  17 miles and I would have been hallucinating and ending up in an ambulance.

Another week on the bike for me but did a very slow 20 minute jog yesterday which finally didn't feel too bad.  Hopefully I'm on the way back, I cannot stand being stuck on the bike.

The main issue where I am is torrential rain.  Only once in 2011 did snow stop me training.  Heavy rain has stopped a few runs.

Steve in Christchurch has pretty good training weather.  Not much rain, quite cool in winter.  Biggest issue is hot, really dry days in summer.

Yep, Christchurch is great for training in all seasons except a few days in summer (okay slightly more than a few when you're as weak in the heat as me).  Some winter runs can be a bit miserable but nothing compared to the Northern Hemisphere.

Steve - I forgot you had run in Florida. It's debilitating when it gets like that. I'm glad you've run here so you can tell the other Kiwis that it's not hot when it's 25C

Ha, I also lived in Melbourne (Australia) for 7 years and ran in up to 45C...you'd think that would have trained me to cope with hot weather but I seem to be getting even worse.  It definitely wasn't 45C in Miami but with the humidity it felt much worse than Melbourne.

I like Australia especially the Goldcoast meter maids who actually go round putting money in expiring parking meters.

Saw that Jacob Ingebrigtesen ran 13.02 5000m at 18 yrs old today. I found a doco on YouTube on the family. It's a good watch. Very nice hard working family. 7 children. Two oldest gave up on competition running. Jacob could be a world record beater. He already has a 3.50 mile and 3.30 1500.

I finished my week on 58kms 36 miles

                                That's a rather good 5km time!

My week is done.  Sunday was my day off.  My oldest had a football tournament on the Sunday in Whanganui, it's a 2.5 hour drive so we went up yesterday and stayed the night.  I good a 9km in late afternoon in Whanganui to get to my aim of 40 or more miles.

I did Mona Fartleks for the third week in a row.  Went quite well.  Friday's tempo was pretty poor as I faded halfway through.  I'll be avoiding intervals for a few weeks, as I often find too much can hinder my tempo - my body kind of gets used to having breaks rather than just grinding away.

Jmac and Mark - nice weeks.

Flavio - good you're back running.
