    Taper Madness, Part 6.1

The entry list for Auckland Road Champs is up.  Numbers slightly up on last year probably because of NZ Road Champs being on the same course, might be a few scratches on the day.

Piwi - your mate Pulford is coming up to run here on Sunday.  He will probably win it I reckon.  Guess it gives him a chance to scout the course before NZ Road Champs in 3 weeks.

    3,000m: 9:07.7 (Nov-21) | 5,000m: 15:39 (Dec-19) | 10,000m: 32:34 (Mar-20)

    10km: 33:15 (Sep-19) | HM: 1:09:41 (May-21)* | FM: 2:41:41 (Oct-20)

    * Net downhill course

Last race: Waterfront HM, 7 Apr, 1:15:48

Oska Baynes is running NZ Half Marathon Champs next weekend, at this stage he is a near-certainty to win it. I reckon he is trying to line up a treble of first in NZ Marathon Champs, NZ Half Marathon Champs and NZ Road Race Champs for 2019. Will be a great contest between him and Pulford at NZ Road Race Champs if that is the case.

Feeling super anxious, both feel like I have too much energy and like my legs are exhausted. Bouncing off the walls and want to take a nap.....

Must be the day before race day after a taper.

Race went pretty well.  Managed to start too quick as I have done every 10k race, faded slightly throughout the race.  Unofficial 40:28, so a little slower than hoped, but a small PR.  First PR for 35 months.

                PRs: 5km 18:43 (Dec 2015), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:26:16 (Sep 2016), full 3:09:28 (Jun 2015)

                40+ PRs: 5km 19:31 (Oct 2020), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:29:39 (Jun 2018), full 3:13:55 (Sep 2022)

                2023 PRs (hope to beat in 2024): 5km 20:34, 10km 41:37, half 1:32:32, full 3:21:05

                2024 PRs: 5km 20:25

Nice one Chris. A PR is great especially after 36 months !

Mark - LOL I wonder if any of these dudes ever google their own names and find out about this weird dude who keeps talking about them on a random online forum.

Anyway, regardless of race, go get it, we both know you’ll PR again.

dps - good luck at the race!

Watson - awesome! awesome! Having just gone 3 years without a PR I know just the feeling. Make sure to celebrate, sub 40 is around the corner for you if you keep the current consistency.

Watson - nice job and congrats. I looked at the Welly course - looks each lap was uphill on the way out and downhill on the way back? So probably some improvement there on a flatter course too.

DPS - well done on smashing your goal! Great effort.

Also congrats to Mark who ran a very fast 10k today on a windy day.

My week done. Longrun was a bonus. Ran with a couple of guys and one guy wanted 35kms so I got dragged along for most of it. Got a bit of a cold but pretty minor.
