Watson, thanks for the great RR and well done on the PR! A small PR is still a PR and you should feel proud!
Piwi my tempo run last week felt ok, I am not sure I could keep up to 10 K, but it was a good session and it was actually inspired by your post on your tempo run ( i didn't plan it but I thought it was a good test). Mark, you are right, I am a bit behind, but I'll try my best next week!
Today I went on the track and done 6X800 aiming for 3' with 100/200 mt. jog (ended up doing all at 200 mt. but the last which I forced myself to do 100 mt. I managed the last 2 800 a few seconds faster, and I am feeling ok, so I will try to go out hard on the 10k and hang on.
Now the main goal is to stay healthy and run a good half marathon on the 22nd of September, but we'll see )
PRs since re-started in 2013:
5km: 19:43 (Belfast park run Sep-16) | 10km: 40:16 (Belfast Lagan side 10K Sep-18)
HM: 1:30:09 (Belfast city Half Marathon, September-18) | FM: 3:25:05 (official chip time Belfast city Marathon, May-19, marathon was 0.3/4 longer, original time 3:27:20 for 26.5/6...)
Upcoming races:
???
3 months til Masters
Getting to the line healthy is more important than anything else. I har some pretty bad workouts, injuries, and races right up until my half marathon. We have run fairly close milage this year. I have only run 80 miles more or so over the year. Keep the milage reasonable to maintain fitness but make sure you get to the line healthy more than anything else.

Mark - thanks for the race report and great finishing speed, that’s the best way to finish any race.
Is Geoff second cousin to Nathan Jones?
Corey - hang in there!
Marco - you’re one speedy beast, not sure why you insist on these long races haha, jk
Keen - no, not mourning. I wanted to be cool like Paul and have no avatar, but couldn’t figure out how to do so. Now I’ve put up some placeholder image.
Best of luck on the 5k, make sure to enjoy it!
Watson - great race report, thanks for writing it up.
I can see we have similar feelings during the race. LOL at "please don't trip".
I also do the finish the race, catch my breath, fetch my bag back and off to film the wife sprinting to the finish line.

This is my favourite comment in this thread so far this year. If only JMac was here.
Anyway, it's New Zealand, so yes probably.

Hi guys, I've posted a pace advice thread, feel free to post your feedback there.

Sorry, Flavio, I've got nothing for you since I really have no experience with the short/fast stuff.
My cut back week isn't going so well - it's not going to be a cut back week at all, despite probably not getting a LR in. The plan for the 5k Saturday has changed several times, which has thrown things out of whack. First, I planned on racing it. Then DW suggested I run it with DD1. Then I DD1 was going to do the short run (1k or 1 mi) that usually accompanies charity 5ks, while I raced - only there isn't a shorter race. Now things are going back-and-forth between the girls not running it and me racing, DW going along with DD1 & DD2 while I race then catch up, and who knows what all else. Surely we can get this figured out in the next day or so!
5k: 17:58 11/22 │ 10k: 37:55 9/21 │ HM: 1:23:22 4/22 │ M: 2:56:05 12/22
Upcoming Races:
OKC Memorial 5k - April 27
Bun Run 5k - May 4
Yeah apologies Flavio - I found it hard enough pacing something as 'short' as a 5000m last December so wouldn't be much chop on a 1500m!
Keen - doh!!
Weather is looking awesome for Sunday - 7C / 45F, fine and practically no wind. I guess maybe I was due a bit of luck with the weather after the last two races. Still don't think it's a PB course but I'll be throwing everything at it nevertheless, there are proper medals on the line here so time to give it everything! I reckon it could be a good scrap between me, Dwight Grieve and potentially Geoff Ferry, we all had similar times at road champ 10k's on the weekend, although between the slow/long course and the horrendous wind in Auckland, I might have a few seconds up my sleeve.

Good luck Mark - I'll be disappointed with anything less than gold. A bronze medal will earn you 1 (ONE) pint of Speights Gold Medal Ale. Add 1 (ONE) pint for each place better than a bronze medal to calculate your full potential prize value.
5km: 18:34 11/23 │ 10km: 39:10 8/23 │ HM: 1:26:48 9/23 │ M: 3:34:49 6/23
2024 Races:
Motorway Half Marathon February 25, 2024 1:29:55
Christchurch Half-Marathon April 21, 2024
Selwyn Marathon June 2, 2024
Dunedin Half Marathon September 15, 2024
Cheers Steve. I hope wearing Vaporflies doesn't result in a 1 point deduction from the prize value!!
Mark - I think you will beat Geoff by around 2 minutes. No idea about the other guy. Is it a hilly course, what is the elevation?
PRs: 5km 18:43 (Dec 2015), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:26:16 (Sep 2016), full 3:09:28 (Jun 2015)
40+ PRs: 5km 19:31 (Oct 2020), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:29:39 (Jun 2018), full 3:13:55 (Sep 2022)
2023 PRs (hope to beat in 2024): 5km 20:34, 10km 41:37, half 1:32:32, full 3:21:05
2024 PRs: 5km 20:25
Watson - there’s a couple of hills but other than that it’s relatively flat. Around 80-90m total elevation gain I think.
Mark - that would be worth at most 45 seconds. I would say Christchurch conditions would have been worth 45 seconds. You have a PR chance.
Watson - I like your optimism, nice way of thinking about it.
Mark Good luck tomorrow!
