Flavio I still eat meat. Just not as much as I used to.
Fellow Kiwis the sub 2 thing will be on at 7.15pm tonight live feed on Youtube.
There was some flexibility over start time but I believe the above time is confirmed.

Somewhere in between is about right "
I just don't think it counts. It needs to be a proper race. Even if he goes sub 2, I will give the 2019 best marathon to Bekele (Berlin).

Yeah it's a bit of a show but still should be fun to watch
I’m with Watson on this. It’s cool, but in a crazy science experiment way. Not the same as a race.

"CONSISTENCY IS KING"
Ha, I dont belong here:
Am still struggeling with my calf. Only running easy but it doesnt want to go away. Damn calf. Anyways:
Where is Rune? There are 3 of his folks helping Kipchoge break the 2 hrs.
And: why does he need 2 pacers at the back?
He doesnt look as smooth as he did when he ran in Monza. Lets see!
HM: 1:47 (9/20) I FM: 3:53:11 (9/23)

Hey Mick
I had jackfruit burger for dinner. Just needed some meat to finish it off
They make 2.50km pace look like a jog. Its sickening.

That last KM was unbelievable, gave me goosebumps. I recorded it overnight and just watched now, and I'm so happy for him. All the haters can talk about the shoes, the pacers, whatever. The fact that he just ran not only sub 2, but broke the damn thing by 20 seconds and looked SO fresh, tells me that it will be done in a race environment in our lifetime, and probably some time in the next few years. I hope it's him next year.
ETA: here is why there are 2 pacers behind. I'm not a scientist so if you want more details, I don't have them
In brief, the idea is that the front V shape of five runners will create a wash of air that will flow around Kipchoge, and therefore reduce the drag on him. Two runners behind Kipchoge will provide what Ketchell calls “static pressure,” to push Kipchoge along; they will also help create the “optimal flow” around him.

Distance - 1,367 miles/2,200 km so far this year. As of this week, I’ve run more miles this year than any year post-high school.
Kipchoge - Amazing accomplishment, but not a race. JMac, I’m not sure he’ll have the chance to break 2 in a race next year. Assuming he runs Tokyo, which will be hilly & hot, he would be cutting it pretty close to squeeze in another marathon in the spring before Tokyo or in the fall after it. It would be cool to see him do it, though, and a much bigger deal for him to do it in a race.
Heat - Found an interesting article on Outside Online about the fitness benefits of training in the heat. https://www.outsideonline.com/2402722/heat-training-cool-weather-impact The author wrote that in a study of well-trained cyclists, the benefit of 10 days of heat training compared to 10 days of normal-temperature training peaked on average 4 or so days after the heat training ended. The benefit gradually diminished until disappearing after about 10 days after the heat training ended. I hope the benefits of heat training over a longer period (all summer) last more than 10 days. Even if not, it may be that while the benefits last, you can do harder workouts than you could have otherwise, and those harder workouts could improve fitness too.
Me - Still having mild allergy trouble, and my left knee hurt at times during today’s run, but the hamstrings seem fine. My easy pace seems slower now than it’s ever been, maybe 8:30 or 8:35/mile, but I hope that’s just a matter of leg fatigue. Five weeks until my half.
Sun - off
Mon - 14 miles easy
Tues - 6.2 easy
Weds - 38 minutes swimming, slow
Thurs - 7.4 easy including strides
Fri - 6.2 easy
Sat - 6.2 easy
Total - 40 miles
12-week average - 35 mpw
Post-1987 PRs: Half 1:30:14 (2019); 10K 39:35 (2019); 5K 19:12 (2017); Mile 5:37.3 (2020)

Mmmm Bop
I recorded it as well and found it boring and ended up fast-forwarding a lot of the race. Yes, the last Km was the only bit of excitement, but he obviously had more in the tank which shows how big an advantage it was under those controlled conditions. It’s a shame that you’ll look back in history of when the first Sub 2 marathon happened and....it was an experiment in Austria. 👎
5k - 17:53 (4/19) 10k - 37:53 (11/18) Half - 1:23:18 (4/19) Full - 2:50:43 (4/19)
Mikkey - if they smashed it on the first try with this, I would agree. But I wouldn’t just sweep this away as some science experiment. Kipchoge couldn’t do it last time, and the other 2 weren’t even in the ballpark. I’m still impressed, i know I’m in the minority. Plus the guy is really one of the good ones in the sport, just look at all the nonsense going on with NOP and the complete asshole that Galen Rupp is. Please, I’ll take this “experiment” with a great guy any day of the week.
James - good work, 40+MPW is a nice spot for a half.
Me - good week in the books with 70+ in 6 days. I hit a new run streak of 13 days. Both quality days went great. I may have to start pushing my M pace to truly feel what 2:39 pace feels like, as I was running more like 2:42 pace, which I think is my current fitness. However, I finished fresh enough that it’s time to really get to work. I still have absolutely no idea how I will run 1:14:59 in 2 weeks, but again, BOTT. No excuses. Time to get to work and get those goals.

Jmac you will be fine remember no human is limited
Although I think I am lol. Solid week and great workouts.
I also enjoyed the sub 2 thing but agree with Mark and Watson of the falseness of it. I would also like to know exactly the makeup of his shoes.
Mikkey yeah it became a bit of a yawn. The only exciting bit was halfway in he seemed to drop back a couple of meters and looked in a little trouble. He regathered nicely and was strong at the end.
I decided to try and run my first sub 40 10k this morning since turning 50 nearly 2 years ago. Wasn't sure how it would go as I still have a cold but thought i would start running some 3.55/km pace and see how far i could cope.
Anyway it went well and I was consistently hitting 3.55 without lasers or pacers and carbon plates and by 8kms in I knew I could do it. I saved a little push for a 3.46 final km and ended up around 38.55.
It's going in my sig line seeing as I don't race
My week
No human is limited....this only applies to Mark
James - good week.
Piwi - nice 10k.
My week was good. I ran Cannon Point today, which I haven't done for a long time. It's a really, really steep hill.
