Race update. 5 miler. Course was a bit short (.05 miles) on very tiny rolling hills (up and down 3 meters)...went out with front back at 5:50 faded as my legs didn't have much in them. Averaged 6:01. Happy turkey day. Gobble gobble!

Hey Flavio - I think as a software engineer, this is a fair question: do you know what’s going on with the RWOL Strava app? Why is it broken, and is it open source / can you fix it

We need to track down the original developer, I think it was a C# app, but I could def use some strong rubber gloves to touch that code and fix it. It'd be cool if the guy were to open source it on Github so that the community can embrace it. There's a ton of devs here.

We could even make it so it'd display the info in the viewer own units using geolocation (freedom units for Murica, communist units for everybody else).

DPS - great job, it looks like 30 minutes was possible just like I predicted. I'm happy to see you fade at the last km, that's always a sign of non sandbagging

well done DPS, good job out there!! happy Thanksgiving to all Americans! I am currently enjoying a couple of days without phone calls from the US, so I am very thankful to this holiday Smile

+1 for Steve turning up at Christchurch.  I was surprised that my parents bothered turning up to watch given how horrible the weather was.

We would need the source code to fix the app.  Or we find the guy and get him to investigate.

And we would then need to host it. If we built it in React/Angular, we could run it for almost nothing on AWS as a serverless app (CloudFront, S3 and API Gateway).

This cracked me up - they're always called Karen!

This group is great, although unlike JMac and Mark, I haven't hit what I think my potential is while posting here, for a number of reasons.  There is still time though!

I work as a Software Developer too and constantly get asked to fix things when I'm not at work.  My Mum is the most classic - I only bought her a laptop and smartphone recently so she thinks I invented technology.  "Can you stop Microsoft changing how my email looks?"  "Do you know why my friend can't call me?" (her friend is not present and I have no access to her phone).

I actually enjoy coming out to watch races when I'm not running (unless I got injured in the last few weeks and I'm very grumpy about missing it).  I actually had expected the rain would have finished by start time in Christchurch this year though...

I taped my ankle and rolled my calves last night and felt no pain in my ankle on the run.  It's a bit sore again today but I think I can manage my way through it.

Wow, that is a ringing endorsement of the power of the group.  How long has the group been communicating?

That's a good question.  At least four years, which is when I started running.  WatsonFlavio and Piwi were all in there before me though, so one of them might know the answer.

The answer is likely a very long time.

I've joined around June 2013 and Piwi was already here. archive.org says community.runnersworld.com was active since March 2013.

I might be wrong but I think people had migrated from something else to the RunnersWorld site.

It's also possible the runners world forums were active in a different URL before March 2013.

For the new people here, the forums used to be hosted on the RunnersWorld site until a couple of years ago when they unilaterally decided to shut down the forums and everybody moved to this site.

@flavio yea that was about all I had. I figure I would have been about 30 flat. I was sucking wind for sure at the end. Race was lead by a bunch of college guys who just came back from college national cross country meet. They were laughing and joking the whole ways running 5:50-5:45 per mile pace. #oldman

Can you guys create a similar app from scratch? I have no idea how much work that would take. We can ask some of the folks in sub 3 and sub 320 if they know who it is but it may require us to handle. And by us, I mean Watson/Flavio

I first started posting on RWOL in 2002.  At least twice they switched software providers for their forums and in the process deleted years of posts.  I never posted in the 1:30 HM threads much, if at all.  A little in the sub 3:00 thread (anyone remember brocknoxious?). There were some big gaps where I wasn’t running much.
