Some of the stuff I write...I'm glad it's gone from the internet

It seemed terrible at the time when the forum shut down but all is forgotten with a fresh start on here.

Paul - Oh my, back in 2002 I didn’t even speak English yet.

Jmac - that app requires a bit of work to setup (wiring in Strava authentication, setting up Heroku to host it) but once that is done it’s trivial since as far as I understand we’ll only be querying the list of activities from last week.

I took a look at it yesterday and I kind of have it mapped out how to create a new one from scratch. However I have little time and I’m super lazy, so I’m not making promises. One of these days I might show up with an app ready to use.

Piwi - word! I've wrote quite a bit of silly stuff back in the day but most of that seems to be thankfully gone.

I think you're trying to crack a joke here, but honestly it comes across more like a snarky dig.  No-one wants to get sick this close to a race.

Also it would be great if we could not have another one of those phases where almost everyone on the thread is sick or injured like we did a few months ago.

Yes it’s a joke in reference to his 100 mile weeks. Also his ability to do a LOT of running at threshold pace week after week without injury.

Mom currently dealing with a wife who has had a cough for about two weeks, and as soon as her cough went away her throat hurt and now looks full of puss so she has a trip to urgent care tomorrow. Race day for me is next Sunday. I had the thought moments ago of checking to see if registration to Dallas was still open because if I get sick I’ll spend lots of money to run with Keen.

Ill go back under my bridge again. Maybe I’ll come back next year. Maybe I’ll stay where it’s safe from judgement.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

My ankle has been a bit sore on and off - today I ran 2 hours and it was fine but sore again post-run.  The most painful moments are when walking.  I'll continue taping and rolling and keeping a close eye on it.

I misread it and retracted the comment.  My bad.  We are mostly harmless here as long as no-one starts a discussion about easy pace.

Not your bad. It’s the internet. It’s difficult to understand the tone or intentions of someone you’ve never communicated with.

Easy pace ace should be run by feel and nothing less. If 5:50/mi feels easy downhill that is easy pace. If 20:00/mi uphill feels easy that is easy pace.

                JamesD

A second easy week after my Nov. 16 half.  As usual when coming back after a race, my hamstring soreness gradually diminished.  Weather was pretty good - upper 40s to mid-60s (9-18 C), which can feel warm or cold depending on whether you're in sunshine or in the shade with some wind.  Many of the walkers at the park were in T-shirts and shorts, while others were bundled up like Eskimos.  On one windy day I ran through a shower of falling leaves each time I crossed a certain stretch of trail.

Me - pretty good week post-race.  Mostly pretty cruisy, legs felt pretty well recovered after about Thursday.  Went for a Strava CR hunt this morning on a long climb past my old house and took it off one of my club mates.  Will look to start adding a bit of speed work in there now with the 5000m race coming up in just under 3 weeks.

James and Mark - good weeks.

My week was ok.  I took Monday off work and finally assembled the trampoline that we bought, supposedly it should take no more than 2 hours, but to me that is like stating a mile should take more than 4 minutes.  Suffice to say, it was a lot more than 2 hours.

I'd never realized how much quicker recovery is from a hot race.  By Thursday I had pretty much  recovered, normally it takes a week from a half marathon.

Nice James.  Keep easing back in and stay healthy.  Back to base building going forward?

Mark- I keep being like why is he beating himself up?  Then i realize you are going into summer.  Looking forward to racing vicariously through you while I just run slow miles over and over and over all winter.

Watson Totally agree about warm weather recovery. I think it has to do with your body not exerting all the extra energy just to keep you body temp up like in cold weather.  It can focus on repair.

I am exhausted.  Miles are beginning to add up.  Longest run of the year (17) most weekly milage of the year as well

Watson - I found the same thing after the half marathons I ran in Feb and Mar.  Hard work and slow on the day, but surprisingly fast recovery - I guess just because you're running slower than you would in better conditions.

DPS - hmm not sure about that, I struggle in warmer conditions... sweated more on a half hour easy run this morning than I did during interval workouts 2-3 months ago!  Impressive week, I always admire the commitment from you guys that have to log a lot of treadmill miles during winter.

DPS - that's a huge week.  Not surprised your exhausted.  I'm not sure in a hot race the effort is less, I definitely tried my best.

No, definitely not a case of the effort being less on those hot days.  It's just the effort goes into battling the hot conditions, rather than getting maximum pace out of your legs, if that makes sense.

I agree 50-55 degrees F is ideal.  I'm just saying that a 5k in 75 degrees I recover much faster than a 5k tempo at race pace at 30 degrees.  I think it has to do with being fully warmed up and ready to race vs running hard in the cold where your muscles are not fully warm.  I tend to tear up my muscles a lot more below 30 degrees than in the heat.
