Ha thanks Corey, keep those strides up! They seem so stupid but they're surprisingly helpful.

Over in Sub 3, we have JMac, Nimmals, CalBears, Brewing Runner, Madison Runner, and Swim. 2 going for sub 2:35, 2 going for sub 2:40, and 2 going for sub 3.

Mark/Jmac - I guess no point arguing target pace this early in the process, right? Isn't it better to just wait and see how Mark's body will react to the higher mileage + marathon workouts? Also to Jmac - Maybe Mark is not a marathon animal and he's got to be conservative in his aim considering his "bad" experience the first time.

Jmac - aren't you targeting a moose mug as well?

For everybody - I found this article today and it seems interesting. It might help you guys if you get hit with sore throats as frequently as I am.

No moose mug. I don't think a 2:32 is in these legs, given that require me to run my half marathon pace . My 1:16:05 half says somewhere between 2:38-2:41, but given that half was into a headwind, my adjusted goal is 2:37-2:39.

Regarding Mark, yeah I get it. The marathon is the one race where if you're off by just 5 seconds per KM, the blow up can be spectacular. I still think sub 2:35 is conservative. For someone as well trained as him, HM+11 is VERY conservative. The aggressive goal is HM+7.

I think Mark needs to be conservative.  I know 1:12 half guy who is 60-85 miles per week consistently, who does 2:45 on a good day.   Some people are naturally worse at the marathon.

Yeah, you nailed it FlavioJMac has run, what, at least 4 or 5 marathons now?  I've run one, and I ran it badly.  It took me 4 or 5 half marathons before I really learned how to pace a race to get the most of out of it and the marathon requires even more precision and control.  You've got to respect the marathon as a distance, otherwise you automatically lose.

I know local guys who've run 2:40 flat this year.  I know I'm faster than them and better conditioned.  I also know they've run a lot more marathons than I have and that plays a big part in it.

In this case, I don't think 2:38 is sandbagging, it's a line in the sand, and a lot of it is just admitting there's a lot I don't know about marathons and maybe once I've got a few more under my belt I can get a bit more aggressive with goals.  I don't know how well I'll handle the mileage or workouts, so I'm just not getting ahead of myself.

Mark I only really started talking about your goal to wind up JMac but I think the only way to do that is complain that it's too hot when it's less than 100F....

I think just arbitrarily complaining about the heat without providing a TDP measure might do it as well.

On that note, I still don't understand what you achieve by adding temperature to dew point, considering the dew point already reflects a humidity-adjusted measure of the temperature.

Mark, I can't tell if that's a serious question or you're just trying to get my goat. I think it's the latter. My goats are secured in their pens, they will not be gotten!

If you just take dew point:

                      25 C @ 100% relative humidity = 37 C @ 50% relative humidity

If you take dew point plus temperature

                      25% @ 100% relative humidity = 50 TDP (metric)

                      37C @ 50% relative humidity = 62 TDP (metric)

I would take 25C @ 100% humidity over 37C @ 50% relative humidity.  Which would put me in the TDP camp.

Or more extreme, for just dew point

                      10 C @ 100% relative humidity = 37C @ 20% relative humidity

JMac - You heading out soon? Or are you gone already? Best of luck either way. I look forward to reading a RR next week!

My legs felt good, though "taper heavy" for my workout yesterday morning. My HR climbed much higher, much faster than it should have given the effort and conditions. Ready for the antibiotics to be out of my system, which should be this weekend.
