Hot Weather Complainer

The Christmas spirit seems to have helped produce some absolute gold overnight....

Flavio it sounds like you might have more luck if you enter the 2020 race, but if you fail the pee test then urine trouble.

Mark One thing that won't get you kicked off the thread is weather paranoia.  It's going to be a balancing act between enjoying my power by going crazy with the weather talk, and annoying people so much we lose them from the thread NFL or Wellington Sevens style.

All these PR predictions make me nervous.  If it's a lock, then do I have to do all the work?

One thing I will predict is a big CK PR.  A race like that is generally followed by a big redemption. I can see JMac getting a few of those looks in Japan when he starts lecturing the locals about how it's much colder in New York City at the moment....

It's been a great year for PRs in this thread.  It will be great to see some more in 2020.  Mark a downhill skiing half-marathon may be ineligible (depending on how the thread leader is feeling).

Dammit! We're going to Sun Peaks in late-January and although the longest run there is 5 miles, a snowboard half marathon PB might've been possible subject to chairlift queues.

Do you guys remember that time I posted a picture of a runner shitting himself so he wouldn't lose the race? LOL I felt bad about that one.

Rune - Gaga challenge states that you need to run a 5k under 20 minutes or else you need to, well, dress up like Gaga.

Steve - I'm impressed by how long it took me to get that pun. Maybe I should go to the punitenciary.

Mark - Great stuff with all the predictions for next year. Quite humorous overall, but still quite likely. I particularly like the one regarding a pending sickness-free PR for me, lol!

Rune - Gaga rule is you have to run sub 20 for 5k or you have post pics dressed up as Lady Gaga. No pressure!

Honestly, the PR predictions are a nice confidence boost - there's still a small, nagging thought that I'd have failed at sub-3 even without getting sick - and I think having people here rooting for me is good motivation.

Hi guys just want to wish you all a merry Christmas.

Good choice of leader with Steve next year. I may finally make it to the south island Steve now my daughter will be at university there although my wife is making the initial trip down.

Rune good to see you have an all clear. You must feel very motivated.

Mark/jmac you guys have taken sub 1.30 and progressed to sub elite this year,  amazing.

Flavio your 1500m exploits have been great to follow.

CK gutsy marathon effort and great consistency in your training. I still follow OKC and believe it or not they are currently 7th in the Western conference.

Watson how are you finding the Zantes? I wear mine without socks and very comfy. I had one problem when they got soaked and lost all structure in the upper.

I had to laugh watching breakfast news on tv1 when they have Wellington live feeds the background has the same runners and cars and I realised its looping !

I'm currently jogging around 40 kms/week and consistently doing core work and pullups. I actually have abs now and not flabs 😁 I seem to have a ache in my left hamstring and glute which I cant get rid of. Still a remnant of the glute injury I suffered a few months ago.

              Anyway  safe holidays

Piwi - the Zantes are pretty good.  They're definitely good shoes for the price, they're quite quick.  Main challenge for me is that they're a 6mm drop which is at the lower end for me.

Rune - Welcome back!  Great news!

Steve - Thanks for agreeing to assume the power.  I suggest that you impose a rule about weather complaining - any of us can complain about temperatures to our hearts' content, but only in one direction, chosen at the start of the year.  For example, you could complain all you like about heat but not about cold, and I couldn't complain about it being hot.  Not sure which JMac would choose.

Me - Got sick Wednesday with something that might be bronchitis and have been in bed for two days.  May see a doctor tomorrow if I'm not feeling better.  This is the first time I've been sick for more than a day since I missed 8 days starting the Thursday before Christmas last year.  Hope I"m not out that long this time.  At least I'm already over my 30 mpw goal for the year.  Doesn't look now like I'll get to 33, though.

15:40 (watch time) in the 5000m race!  4th overall (although it was the B race).

Man I can't help but feel that I've had some crazy luck on my side this year too.  Three hours before the race the wind was howling and it was raining heavily.  The weather cleared around an hour and a half before the race started, so conditions for the race were almost perfect apart from a slight breeze and a bit of water on the track in places.

Mark bloody fast once again. Did you wear spikes or 4% ?

I saw on my Strava feed Reagan Bones and Tama both from Papamoa ran it.

In other news they have finally removed the staircase around Mt. Maunganui and it is a flat section now. Only took 2 years ! Good news for race times around there.

Piwi - I wore the Vaporflies.  If the rain hadn't stopped and allowed the track to dry a bit I would've gone spikes though.  Lots of people in my race were wearing VF's including the winner.  Had to go with the pink as it's the first race my wife and daughter have been able to come watch this year.  My daughter thought it was the coolest thing out and now wants to go running.

Regan Bones and Tama were in the A race I think - I was in the B race.  There wasn't much between the faster runners in the B race and the slower runners in the A race.  I was a little faster than the slower guys in the A race.

Official time was 15:39 in the end.  RR hopefully today or tomorrow if I get time.
