Mark, Steve, JMac, Matt-  Good luck and good weather to all of you!

Warm (but not yet hot) weather has arrived in Georgia, with temperatures around 77/25 on most of my runs.  That may be why I’m not taking as long to settle into a rhythm after starting out slowly. Same runs as last week, but I swam twice instead of once, and for slightly longer.  Have new niggles - the joint above the ball of my left big toe is aching, and the outside ball of the same foot hurts sometimes too. May just be that my shoes are wearing out - I’m over 300 miles in my main pair, and I’ve done all my runs lately in two pairs of the same model (the long-since-discontinued Nike Lunar Tempo 2).  I’ve ordered a pair of Reebok Forever Floatride Energy - the weight/drop combination seems right for me, reviews are good, & I couldn't resist $60 with discount - and hope they help. May see a running podiatrist if the aches continue.

    Sun - off

    Mon - 12.5 miles easy

Tues - 6.2 easy recovery, then 24 minutes swimming

    Weds - off

    Thurs - 10.4 easy

Fri - 6.2 easy recovery, then 24 minutes swimming

Sat - 7.3 easy including sluggish strides

    Total - 42.6 miles

    12-week average - 34 mpw

    Post-1987 PRs:  Half 1:30:14 (2019); 10K 39:35 (2019); 5K 19:12 (2017); Mile 5:37.3 (2020)

It looks like Mark was fighting tooth and nail with an Ethan Verner and as of the 20th km he was ahead by 10 seconds. I'm waiting for the official result to pop at the site, he probably already finished.

Marco - It looks like Mark was chasing the lead female as well haha. She shows as 7th overall now while Mark was upgraded to 6th. I wonder if we'll learn more about that, she's a very fast lady!

good racing!!! I go  to bed now... tomorrow morning alarm set at 5 am and last long run (24 slow miles planned).

This morning I ended up racing in a local 10 K organized to fund a primary school. It was windy and in the middle of the country side (no tarmac and lots of ups and down.

I finished with a good 41' and did not push it. I was very surprised my Heart beat rate was never above 148 in the last K and I averaged 128 Beat per minute in the 10K. I guess the training is paying off in the cardio vascular system... now I need some strength.

                      good night Smile

Tracking site is indeed great.  If the place column is accurate, Steve has been passing a ton of people.  Looks like there are a lot of fast people in the race - in my last three halfs I've been around Steve's time and have finished between 14th and 18th.  Steve is currently 157th, down from 218th at km 8.

Hey guys - 1:14:45 on the watch for an almost one minute PB, still waiting on official times (they did get them, apparently but had some issue with the finish line clock).

Conditions excellent apart from a shitty headwind the last 2km that kinda appeared out of nowhere. Just locked in the pace early and stayed there, was with a group until about 10km and then I dropped them.

Flavio - the women’s winner Lydia O’Donnell passed me with about 500m to go. I probably owe her 4 or 5 seconds of that PB as it gave me a little extra nudge! She was around top 20 women at the NYC Marathon so she is pretty talented. First time I’ve been passed in a race since Dec 2017 but I’m ok with it haha.

                            3,000m: 9:07.7 (Nov-21) | 5,000m: 15:39 (Dec-19) | 10,000m: 32:34 (Mar-20)

                            10km: 33:15 (Sep-19) | HM: 1:09:41 (May-21)* | FM: 2:41:41 (Oct-20)

                            * Net downhill course

Good work Marco, and congrats Mark - it seems you have no limits!

I'm rushing to the airport now but quick thoughts...could never get into the groove of the pace I needed and had a few periods of feeling rubbish, then good then rubbish.  6km to go I felt like it was heading towards last year but I put my head down and held on as much as I could.  I'm disappointed not to get the A goal but I couldn't have given it any more.  I knew I was fading so was surprised I was passing people, it was a bit deceptive.  Turning into that wind at 19km when I felt completely spent was disheartening but would have been worse earlier in the race.  Mid winter in the South Island is my happy place!  Oh and at the start line some guy shaking out his legs kicked me flush in the ankle, enough to make me make an audible "ahhh f**k".  He didn't seem too apologetic either...didn't feel it during the race but still, what a dickhead.

                              5km: 18:34 11/23 │ 10km: 39:10 8/23 │ HM: 1:26:48 9/23 │ M: 3:34:49 6/23

Oh, my watch says 1:30.49 which will be close to official time.  The website has an estimated time still for the finish line which is 4 seconds slower.  I want those 4 seconds back!
