JMac - awesome result, another PB! Looked liked a tough finish so well done for grinding it out.

Flavio - oh I have a pretty good finish line suffer picture from the Maraetai Half, I’ll find it and put it up later.

Congrats JMac, PR in a tough race is a great effort.

Flavio - I did a 16km which had 2x20 mins in it 11 days out.  The 40 mins of effort was 9.62km and including the 2 minute rest it was 9.98km in 42 mins so it's close to a 10km tempo.  That workout had me quite confident because I didn't suffer at all - it was a nice cold morning though.

Mark - It seems I keep losing places each time I check my time...the time hasn't changed but it seems other people's have.

          Here we go Flavio.

This was the finish of the Maraetai Half, the most miserable race I have run in a while.  It was 20C and almost 100% humidity.  Also I had some weird stomach thing that day, not bad but a couple of times I felt a little like puking.

Steve - not sure why... Rob (the race director) told me that he only updated the times for the top 10 based on finish line pictures.  The others are presumably still using some sort of approximation.

What actually happened?  Did they just not have it on?  I can't imagine the reaction when they worked that out.  I guess that's why my finish time stayed as "Estimated" for so long - a few people following me were worried that I'd had a heart attack in the last km, even my non technology savvy Mum sent a text saying "I assume/hope you have finished by now even though it says you haven't"

Yup. Actually wasn't on until 9:14. First time in 13 years of being a race director that Rob has done that apparently!

Steve - Yeah, I meant to run it all in a single effort, without breaks.

Mark - LOL thanks for being a sport. My half last year was run in slightly worse conditions and I remember well the misery.

Steve - yup... there might have been 22 timing mats on the course but THERE'S ONLY 2 THAT ACTUALLY MATTER!

                      Flavio - you win

Me - ugh the entries for the Half Marathon Series 2019/20 have opened already and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just a little bit tempted... maybe a bit of pride to go out and aim for a three-peat... but then I think about the races... Devonport is fun (and I have unfinished business there), the next three are hot summer sweat-fests, and then there's Waterfront.  OK maybe I've just talked myself out of it again.  Those summer HM's really suck.

                      RIP Milkman

Hey thanks everyone. It was tough out there today. The humidity was sneaky, felt really good until the Newton hills destroyed me (Mark, please allow these to be defined as hills!). Ran by Finbad from the sub 3 forum, so it was good to finally meet someone even briefly. I will say that I enjoyed this marathon the least out of the four. Not because of the course (Boston does a great job, better than NYC imo in terms of people support/starting village/finish), but just because I really hated my life for those last 6 miles more than any of the other three. If the BAA could take a picture of how I felt, it would be like Mark’s picture, except there would be tears streaming down my face while the BAA unicorn spiked me in the nuts.

I’ll catch up on most of these other posts, but it looks like a lot of Kiwi chatter!

Uncle Flavio - don’t worry, I’m running CIM this winter. I’m done with NYC/Boston for now, it’s time to go get me a 2:39. CIM is the premier place these days to go get a fast time with other fast folks. But first, a summer of hard work and a lot of 5Ks/10Ks. Maybe even lowering my half PR, but it’s going to be tough just 4 weeks after this race.

The Hills Committee (me) has reviewed your elevation profile.

The profile demonstrates, between the 16 and 21 mile mark, 4 separate climbs that would constitute hills.

The Hills Committee also notes that, at this point of a marathon, those climbs would have felt significantly larger than they actually were.

Jmac huge congratulations once again another big PB and seemingly endless potential for you as with Mark.

I see Matt had a tough day crashing to 3.20 but kudos for finishing.

I saw the end of the livestream and caught the men's sprint finish.

Keen nice week. England is good nice running temps and pretty little lanes to run down. Very hilly where I am too.

I'm meeting Mikkey today for a run and coffee should be epic talking about all you peeps

It's around 95% Steve and me complaining about timing screw-ups at Waterfront.  The tl;dr version is, they didn't have the finish line mat working until around 1:44 into the half.  They used estimated times from the 20km mark for most runners (since they had timing mats every km), but lucky buggers like me in the top 10 got an official time that the race director got from timestamped finisher pictures / video.
