RIP Milkman

Watson - nice job on the 5k.  The temperatures are suckage up here right now too and it's definitely hitting my training paces a little.

The average high temperature this entire week for Auckland is 77/25 and it's defined as "suckage?" That's one strike for you!

    Flavio - Will add

    5K: 16:37 (11/20)  |  10K: 34:49 (10/19)  |  HM: 1:14:57 (5/22)  |  FM: 2:36:31 (12/19)

Jmac- That’s awesome that your injuries are starting to fade, glad to see you back at it. Just make sure you don’t rush the recovery and listen to your body closely!

Piwi- Yeah I got in to see a specialist today, xrays came back good, and I should be going in to get an MRI done. The MRI would show a stress reaction or anything else, but it sounds like doc thought it was patellar tendinitis. If it comes back as tendinitis, I’ll try to get in to do some PT and work back slowly. I’m hoping it will only be 3-4 more weeks on the bike (I’ve already been on the bike for a week now) plus some PT then I’m hoping I’ll be good to get running again. Will keep y’all updated on the knee and recovery!

25 in Auckland is awful to run in...give me 30+ in Christchurch over that any day (with some shade though).

          RIP Milkman

Matt - You'll get some good advice from guys on this forum because we've been through a lot of rounds of PT in our lives. I probably have been to PT for at least 6 different injuries and have learned some key things about my body and overall rehab. For your injury, make sure you spend a lot of time stregthening your glutes. Quad strengthening is always good too. Often injuries don't just heal with rest, which is kind of annoying.

Mark - I added something on the front page about sandbagging goals. I have my eye on you

Steve - DO YOU WANT TO GET A STRIKE TOO?

Flavio thankyou for noticing my joke

I'm not trying to be anal ( Flavio see what I did there ) with the 5000m 5k thing, buts it significantly quicker on a track which makes any future road 5ks tougher to improve on for a PB if you count them the same. But if Mark were to die tomorrow ( crosses chest amen ) or retired from running then his 5000m can become his 5k PB

Steve I might make Saturday my longrun if my calf continues to be ok and run down from my place which is 10kms to Mount hot pools. Then we could meet up do a lap of the Mount and you could run part way back to Papamoa with me and turn back at the desired kms. I will bring my phone for the compulsory selfie shot for the forum.

                  RIP Milkman

I know Mark's 5K is different, that's fair. No 5K PR for you!

Sure, blood on the track works. We were going more with something a male runner would put on the table. Whatever floats your boat.

Speaking of floating boats, I feel like I should just talk in idioms as much as possible to confuse the non-native speakers. I also want to hear what crazy idioms you people in the southern hemisphere have. Probably a lot of them revolve around sheep, although perhaps one of my top 5 used idioms in day to day speech is "get your goat"

                        Hey everybody...

Piwikiwi clued me in about this forum. I used to be pretty active in the RW forums before they went bye bye.

I really miss the daily motivation and banter from the sub-1:30 forum, so I was pretty excited to hear about the existence of this forum.

Currently, I'm trying to get back into top form. I ran a 1:25 half in 2015 and qualified for Boston in 2016 with a 3:06 but haven't run anything spectacular since then. I'd like to get back to sub-1:30 shape by about April and hopefully run some fast marathon times in May & October this year.

Hey Brent Hanson good to see you here. Ive been following you on Strava. Looks like you are still a great coach. You can talk Basketball on here too. Me and DJ are OKC fans.

                            Kiwi idioms:

"Yeah, nah" meaning 'no' (I'm not kidding.  Kiwi's are pretty polite in general so this is a way people will soften a 'no').

"Throw a sickie" meaning 'call in sick to work'

Brent: welcome!  Good to see we've attracted another former RWOL member over (nice job, Piwi).

JMac: haha yeah I know what it stands for, I was just obfuscating.  Although it could end in blood on the tracks, I suppose.  I dunno, for me I think going in with hard time goals can be counter-productive.  I feel like I've got a PB in me for the half this year if I can keep the training consistent, but equally, my best races have tended to be where I've run to effort and then the pace and time has taken care of itself.

DJ - I have no idea what’s next on the agenda. They send 2 weeks of training plan at a time and I can so far only see as far as this Sunday.

Keen - keep us posted on your match against the 1%er, I like playing chess but I’m lazy to do the hard work of thinking of all alternatives.

Mark - thanks man, though I often run early when the temps are a bit lower.

I will google BOTT on the urban dictionary and then post the results here, sit tight! I kid, I kid

Piwi - LOL ok enough with the starstruck-edness

Brent - Hey, it’s great to have you back. DJ also just recently found his way over here. I’ll be curious to know if you’re still waking up at ungodly o’clock to have those medium long runs, and how’s the family?
