Mark - after race would be good.

JMac - I like the quotes addition to the front page.

DD2 is now through with school. DD1 finishes next week. After that traffic in town will absolutely disappear in the morning, which is nothing but good considering when I usually end my runs.

I was just looking through upcoming races and found something interesting: a 5k, quarter marathon (never seen one of those around here before!), and a HM in a single morning - and they offer the possibility of doubling by getting the 5k and then either the quarter or HM, with the doublers being ranked by cumulative race times. It's a bit of a drive to Tulsa to get there, but that just sounds like fun.

Flavio - yeah I just use internet-based apps with my wife now, either whatsapp or gchat. The US is dumb (as steve is learning)

Hey, I wouldn't say that, I wouldn't keep coming back if I didn't love it.  Now in Florida for the first time - my gf likes it more than New Orleans.  She can walk outside and feel safe which is a bonus.

Amen to that. My race ends at 8:15 AM on Saturday morning. Is that too early for a beer?

Enjoy Florida. Visit all the time. The stories about it are a bit crazier than it actually is. The heat/humidity though can be unbearable, I did some runs there this past summer and I got out too late (7:30 am) and was absolutely frying out there within 30 minutes.

Absolutely not too early, especially when you've been up since 4am.

Stand by for more heat complaining then.

JMac - What would be your recommended theme park?  We only plan to spend one day at one park.

And besides that, where else in Florida is good to visit?  We have 9 days but only the next 2 planned.  And can I run somewhere round Universal?  Looks like freeways.

Keen 1/4 marathons are reasonably common over here but Id much prefer a 10k which is a legit distance for a PR.

Jmac yep put me down for 2025 Parkrun, month to be decided

I drink, probably a bit too much, but morning drinking has just never felt right for me and then I basically just want to sleep for the rest of the day.  I mean, after a half I'll normally force some recovery carbs in ASAP but it's at least an hour until my stomach genuinely feels like eating or drinking.  Hell, after Waterfront this year I didn't actually end up eating anything substantial until almost 4 hours after the race (mostly because Oporto Mission Bay was shut, and when I got home I had to rush DD up to swimming lessons).

Steve I recall going to a high-end food hall in CHC with some awesome places plus a bar as well not that long ago - Little High Eatery I think?  Could be an option.  I could definitely smash a decent burger or two.  Otherwise you'll know better than me what's decent around the race base area.

Little High is great.  Will be very packed full of runners but you can get a beer too.  Entx is the new cinema complex in Colombo Street which also has a lot of great food.

After Christchurch, I'm usually keen for beer(s) because I usually have similarly alcoholic friends running, and it's a long weekend.  I might see if they need a pacer for 1:50 or 2 hours but they usually have it covered.  I'd be so nervous doing that for the first time, with people expecting great things!

I'm relaxed where we go.  It's been a long time since I lived in Christchurch, so Steve is best placed to decide a place.

                        RIP Milkman

JMac - What would be your recommended theme park?  We only plan to spend one day at one park.

Depends what you’re looking for. Remind me - do you guys have kids? Disney obviously appeals more to kids, but within Disney, Epcot is good for adults (it’s the only park that really sells beer, if you’re looking to drink your way through Disney ). If you’re into thrill rides, then you should go to universal. Really just depends what your want.

Regarding where to run, as always, I recommend Strava heat maps. Gives you a great idea of where the runs are occurring in the area you are staying. But yeah, my guess is it’ll be highways. I never found a good place to run in Orlando, just end up on the treadmill always.

As to the rest of Florida, you definitely need to get to the coasts: Orlando is only good because of the parks, otherwise the beaches are where it’s at. Miami is the place to be if you want to be in a city, but there are plenty of beach towns along the costs. Weatherboy over in the sub 3 forum lives on the coast in Florida sort of near Orlando, he can give you the best recommendations (I can summon him on Strava if you’d like recommendations).

                          Wind is not my friend.

I think it's a rite of passage to go to Disney, regardless of if you have kids.  I'm kind of a kid at heart so I enjoy it.  Otherwise, Epcot is definitely the more adult place to hang out, drink, etc.  Haven't been to Universal in years, I did enjoy it for the couple days I did get to go there.

Jmac - I remember going to Florida a bunch of times as a kid with my family.  My dad did convention planning but we just went to beaches.  Always found that the more south you went, the less conservative the bathing suits were....Miami could have scarred me as a young kid.

                            "Current" PRs

                              RIP Milkman

Thanks Mark. Only madness is that my hamstrings are incredibly tight for some odd reason, but given I don't stretch a lot normally, I'm not introducing anything new with 2 days to go. Just gotta see if they loosen up during the race, plus I'm not sure tight muscles actually impact performance, right?

Weather is looking great: TDP right around 105, so you can't really beat that. 7 mph tail breeze, so that's prefect too. Only problem is the 3:45 am wake up time, but otherwise, I'm ready to go. I haven't solved my warm up plan for this race because it's so crowded with 25K runners, but I'll figure it out. Probably do 2 miles before entering through security. I WILL ALSO NOT DROP MY ANTI-NAUSEA PILLS THIS TIME.

Not that anyone should be awake at this hour, but here is the tracking: https://liveresults.nyrr.org/e/NYRR-BROOKLYN-2019. They do have timing mats every 5K, so if everything goes perfect, there's a chance I get a new 5K, 10K, and HM PR all in one race
