Cool little human interest story that I thought other runners, no matter their politics, would like.

Acceptable at a dance, invaluable in a shipwreck.
Unlike another well known pol, you don't need a calculator for that mile time. What you see is what you get.
If he wasn't 4-5 years older than my father-in-law I'd be calling looking for stories. I'll ask anyway. My f-i-l grew up in NYC during the 60s, running track, cc, and racing in VCP. He can still quote VCP times to the second. It's a benchmark for NY runners.
Good stuff.
I got some feedback from my f-i-l on Bernie's VCP time. I don't think it impressed him one bit. He ran in CHSAA and said PSAL was slower. He said they considered sub 14 fast. 50 years later he remembers his best time was 13:50. He also ran in college.
3 miles?

"How did I know [Bernie Sanders] ran a 4:30 mile in high school? That's easy. Everybody ran a 4:30 mile in high school" - Frank Shorter
Leroy Lambright is an awesome name.
If they list out the top 5 runners and then only give one time - 4:37, wouldn't that be the winning time, not the 3rd place runners time?

Sounds like fun. But my parents didn't escape the Soviet Bloc so their kids could support a socialist. I'll pass.
