Knot on shinbone? (Read 491 times)

I have a knot on the front of my left shinbone. It doesn't really bother me unless I put pressure on it, then it feels tender. During the first minute or so of running, it hurts a little, then it's fine. Is this normal, or should I be worried about something like maybe a stress fracture? I would think a stress fracture would be more painful, so I'm hoping it's no big deal.

obviously I have no idea what it looks like, and I'm not a doctor but it COULD be a cyst maybe? I'd have it checked out but I would certainly not lose any sleep over it. I had a friend who had one or two in his thigh. Not really painful but they were weird so he had it checked out. The DR drained them. He said that was about it. he's fine now.

This is from shin splints. It could develop into a stress fracture - suspect this if the pain persists longer into the run or is present even with walking. Make sure to stretch your calves well and warm up gradually. Consider an evaluation of your gait if your local running store has a treadmill, or see a podiatrist. Common causes are increased distance, poor arch support, tight muscles. Make sure you have new, supportive shoes.
Thanks, Dave and Dave. I will definitely keep an eye on it and mention it to my Dr. at my next visit.
