Hot Weather Complainer
Even then, it's remarkable how often basic conveyancing can get messed up.

James that's very nice of you helping that Japanese lady although it sounds like it's getting pretty intense.
Mark great job on the 400kms. Did you watch the Goldcoast Marathon and Half etc ? Looked like perfect running conditions.
Watson nice kms. I've seen a few people on strava having big GPS issues recently ? Mark included.
Good job on the Parkrun.
Fred nice miles in the heat. My running always drops off in summer.
DW stellar week and good to see you got some useful data from what is working and what isn't.
My wife is 50 this week so menopause is a hot topic.
She's walking 50kms today by herself.
It's a work day here so I'm supporting her in between jobs. She's done about 13 miles so far.

"CONSISTENCY IS KING"
Something is definitely going on with GPS, every second post on Strava today from NZ runners mentions the crazy GPS.
piwi - 50km walk? Is it symbolic for her 50th birthday? What a huge effort.
It was problematic early last week as well. One guy I follow on Strava had travelled the width of the South Island, apparently around 12km.
Steve/Mark yes just doing 50kms for turning 50. She ended up with 52kms. Actually crashed out right now on the couch feeling queasy
The weather for my 4-mile race was much better than forecast, at 72º (22C) with low humidity. I ran 31:35.5, 5th of 42 in my AG, 185/893 OA and my second fastest 4M result ever. I'll write up a report later. For now I'll just say it was a very good day. (My son improved his 4M PR by 22 seconds, but I cut one second off his margin of victory over me in our last joint 4M race.)
ETA: I was just looking at the Garmin data and I'm rather pleased with my pacing in the race. The dip around the 20 minute mark was at a hard left turn onto a narrower path and the slow-down near the end came when we ran up 10' to cross a foot bridge, went down a steep 10' off the bridge, then after about 20 yards, a steep 6' back up to the path along an embankment. Other than the slight downhill start, I was able to mostly keep my pace steady throughout, rather than fading late, or going out too slow and having too much left.

Mother of Cats
Piwi - that's quite impressive. How long did it take her? I find walking 50K more imposing than running 50K, just because of the time on one's feet.
Fredford - congratulations on a very nice run! Same for your son!
Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.
And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

DW - Thank you very much.
Piwi - 50k is a great way to celebrate a milestone. Nicely done by your wife.
Fred nice job !
DW it took her around 8 to 9 hours. I gave her my GPS watch in the second half as the fitbit was way out on distance. She was walking at about 9 min/km pace.
Fred - Great effort. I have to admit, I had some dread about how you would go with the weather forecast. Glad it was slightly better than expected and you nailed it. Racing through summer should set you up nicely for some PR attempts in the Autumn.
piwi - that is a cracking pace for walking. Admittedly I'm a slow walker but there's no way I could hold that pace for 52km. Probably would struggle for 5km.
Yep top work Fred. I totally agree with Steve here. If you can smash out a decent effort in summer, you may find you get a genuine boost when the weather cools down a bit.
Piwi, Steve, Mark - Thank you all. The drop in humidity the day before was a big boon for me. I agree with Mark that one of the benefits of summer training is the extra energy you feel in autumn when the temperatures start to fall.
I have seen a lot of NZ runs on Strava with bad GPS over the last week, but not overseas runners. I don't think it's GPS brand specific. I'm wondering whether it's atmospheric? Maybe the upper atmosphere above NZ had unusual amount of water vapor which would cause light refraction?
PRs: 5km 18:43 (Dec 2015), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:26:16 (Sep 2016), full 3:09:28 (Jun 2015)
40+ PRs: 5km 19:31 (Oct 2020), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:29:39 (Jun 2018), full 3:13:55 (Sep 2022)
Definitely could be something like that. The other thought that occurred to me was whether it was a specific time of year issue based on the Earth's current position and maybe some sort of weak/dead spot in terms of GPS coverage. But that would be highly unlikely given that I think there are 31 GPS satellites.
