Would someone care to explain splits? (Read 652 times)

Baby bean!

And not banana or the ones where your legs do a 180! Tongue MTA: NOT that I'm anywhere near needing to know about them, but I'd LIKE to know about them. Big grin

I'm slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter, but I run.

Splits are just the time you took for a particular distance. In most cases a mile or kilometer. I record my heart rate for every mile as well on most runs.

I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

That pretty much sums it up. You may also hear someone say that they negative split a race. In this case the splits are the two halves of the race, and the person ran the second half faster than the first half.

        Not at it at all.

Also commonly used for runners on a track. For races that are longer than 1 lap (i.e., 800m and longer) you'll often see the splits in 400m increments, which is equivalent to one lap around the track.
