Free running (parkour) anyone? (Read 510 times)

I've found out that a sports centre close to my home is organising free running (parkour) "classes" (£5 per 2 hours which is pretty good) and I thought it can be a good idea to develop my James Bond's skills : p while I learn some fancy movements and increase my strength (which I do need desperately). However, it seems a sport quite prone to injury, so that's putting me off a bit... Have any of you had any experience with this sport? I suppose it's good fun, but is it very "risky"? Cheers : )

I have nothing of value to add. I just had to say that the running scene in Casino Royale was the BEST! Amazing. Wish I could do it.

I've got a tiny bit of experience with it as one of my best friends has gone to some big conferences on it and talked to people who actually trained under David Belle(originator of the sport). Your beggining classes will not have you doing anything at all like what you saw in bond. It will be controlled jumping, and balance training for a long time. My friend told me that there's one group that you can train with for parkour that will NOT LET YOU JUMP for an entire year until you go through a conditioning program to prepare you for it. I think I'd like to do it but alas I don't live in a city and there's not any interest in the sport where I live.
