It's good to be back (Read 416 times)

I had my first run today, after 5 weeks off with an injury. I was greeted with 50 degrees and a clearing sky which made for great conditions. I ran with my girlfriend and took it nice and slow. It didn't feel too hard, but I was amazed at the loss of cardio conditioning... my heart rate was higher at a 10:30 pace than it was at an 8:30 pace when I last ran. My legs seemed to be questioning the whole endeavor for the first mile but remembered the routine after that. Anyway, it feels really good to be back out on the road. My log looks rather sad, though, with just one giant bar on the graph. There's nothing to do I guess besides get a ton of running in to fix that!

What was your injury? Your post doesn't mention how the affected bone/muscle/tendon responded to your return. Maybe I missed an injury report. Glad your back and well
Well the injury was either a stress fracture or shin splints. The bone scan was inconclusive, so the doc defaulted to calling it shin splints. Either way, the solution was don't run until it doesn't hurt. Whatever it was, it was fine during this morning's run and has felt good since. Phew!
