RIP Milkman
I tried to run today but shut it down after 1.5 miles. Chest started to act up and felt off. So this is more than just a day or two off cold. How do I adjust my taper? Do I:
A) Continue as if I ran 70 this week, ie don't change anything
B) Do a shorter taper, since this week was so down anyway it acted like a taper, eg run 70 next week and then taper down for 2 weeks
C) Something else?

Just delurking to wish JTReeves a good race tomorrow at Hartford.
Jmac - hope you feel better.
Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.
And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.
JMac - my uneducated advice but that's what I would do. As we saying all the time - hay is in the barn for you this cycle. All you need to do is to be healthy by the marathon day. So, I would forget about any plan until you are totally (or almost) healthy. The main goal for me in a situation like this when I am sick but still want to race - do not lose conditioning. And for that I would just run. Run at any pace that would not risk my health and would not make me feel really uncomfortable. So, based totally on feel. Not running at all will make you lose some conditioning and running hard will kill you. So, that's what I would do. But of course, if sickness stays for long, you should take the race easier, if you still decide to race.
JTReeves - good luck!

JMac- I'll agree with Calbears. I think you just have to listen to your body and try and make the best decision you can. I know how frustrating it must be.
JTReeves- Hope it goes great!
Subdood- Hope it all clicks, and you can get in a few good runs before your race. If we keep pushing back our marathons, eventually we'll wind up at the same one!
Me- Had a nice 13 miler Thursday at normal pace, and I feel pretty well recovered from my aborted marathon last weekend. Tomorrow is speedwork I'm going to skip as a precaution, but otherwise hopping back on to pfitz 18/70 with 4 weeks left until my race. My mileage at the end of next week will have been 68,53,43,40 (including 18 of marathon), 36, 68 (then beginning same taper). Any opinions of me making it more or a 2 week taper, since my mileage has been so low and I'm more rested than normal?

Good luck JT! 👍

Madison - Thanks for the advice and especially for sticking around after your race. Hopefully you do stay here, we can always use your advice as a fast guy.
LOL, well he’s got another marathon next month! I get your point, especially with Lola disappearing straight after her Buffalo marathon.
Thanks a lot for the well wishes everyone. My bib # is 1285, race is the Hartford marathon, in case anyone wants to track. Weather is perfect temp-wise; 46 at the start, 49 at the finish, only bad thing is 60% chance of rain the first two hours. Anyway, no overheating risk which is good.

JT - 10k 39:47 (6:25 pace)
and half - 1:24:30 (6:27 pace)
Looks like JT is holding a steady pace. Seems he might be dealing with some rain for the rest of the way, but cool as he mentioned.
Edit- Great PR!
He’s at 17 miles in 1:50:10 (6:29 pace)
And mile 20 in 2:09:31 (6:29 pace)
If he comes through sub 2:50 after all that complaining that he’s not in that shape, he’s going to get a stern (virtual) talking to!
25.1 miles in 2:44:28 (6:34 pace)
And he’s done in 2:52:14 for a 5+min PR! Great job JT
Great work JT! So happy the great cycle you put in paid off. Looking forward to the race report.
Great work JT! Congrats on the huge PR!
