Forgot to mention Mikkey - I played Whistling Straits last week. It gave me some good insight into all the places where the US is going to crush Europe this fall

I think if I try long enough I might be able to hit a golf ball with the golf club. There's an equal chance of me hitting the ground and another big chance of hitting my own legs 😂

On running news I've gotten a nice workout done today, the upper hamstring niggle has faded, crisis averted, for now.

I’m still hoping to run London on 3rd October, but I got PF pretty bad a couple of months ago and still not 100% recovered from it, plus putting most of my weight on the other foot meant that my heel spur flared up again. I have an appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon in a couple of weeks time for possible surgery on the heel spur as it’s been bothering me for 2 years now. He’s got a very good reputation so I’ll take his advice on the pros and cons. Yes, I can get by on training with it, but do I want to aggravate it just to get back in sub 3 shape again? Surgery would be a gamble, but if I was able to train pain free again it might be worth?  Let’s wait and see!

Hope your training is going well and I’ll give you an update next month! 👍

10k easy on Mon, Wed and Fri.  Sunday: I had a half marathon pacing job. My sister has been training for her first half marathon. She had entered two events only to have both canned due to the virus (we are currently in our fifth lockdown) and decided to run as a virtual race.  Her stated goal was sub 2 hours but I knew that was a bit soft based on what she had done over 5k.  She pushed hard and came in with 1:57.

I had a good chat with a local coach last week.  As soon as restrictions ease (50:50 chance that happens Wed) I’ll head down for a session with the squad.

Here's an exclusive video of Cal and Mikkey in a few years, continuing to fight for glory in the golden years:

WMA 100m men 90-99 years old

And my week below. I woke up Wednesday morning with a niggle in my upper right inner hamstring bothering me. It was bad enough I was wondering if I should run at all. I figured it had to be the long run shoe I'm using which is approaching 750 miles / 1200km.

Unfortunately there are no Altras on sale in Brazil. And Runningwarehouse, which used to be my supplier in the past, is no longer shipping these to Brazil (The BR government charges a 100% import fee but it was still worth it).

So I was left with the lesser, narrower shoe brands. Obviously Nike and Adidas and most of the shoe brands are out cause they're made in the shape of a pencil.

My feet are in the shape of a triangle, like duck feet.

I was left with Hoka. I did some research and it seemed like the Hoka Bondi 7 is the widest (in terms of toebox) shoe in the Hoka line up.

Unfortunately developing countries like Brazil don't have the concept of wider sizes, a 4E might serve me well here. Also, the stores do not carry US size 9. It's either 8.5 or 9.5.

So I got the Hoka Bondi. I will have to negotiate with my toes for about a month until I'm back in Europe and can go back to my beloved Altras for my long runs. My toes will be compressed and they will scream at me, but it will have to do for now.

I was able to finish that run, but then Thursday morning though I was better, I was not yet 100%, so I ran Friday's easy run instead of the prescribed workout.

I then woke up much better on Friday and ran the prescribed workout.

Today's long run was very tough again, but I keep reminding myself that these last few miles are like the last few miles in the marathon.

I'm always with an excess of aerobic capacity and lack of muscular endurance so 5 miles at 7' pace was relatively easy breathing, but my hips and legs in general were complaining about being tired.

CIM training starts HOPEFULLY this upcoming weekend. I have been feeling sick so I skipped runs this week and the fires have made the air quality worse than what I’m willing to run in. So my build up was about a week long and I’m going into training with just one 5k under my belt. This should get interesting.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.
