I have done lots of group rides and some time trials but never any road races, criteriums or mountain bike races. I think I would like to scratch my competitive itch and start. Any racers in the group that have some sound advice?

Same as you only done TT's but I think you will find racing is an entirely different ball game and you will have a lot of lessons to learn, do you know anyone that races if so start there.

I've done many group rides where you would think we were racing!! Attack, cruise, attack cruise. Same here, I've done a few TT. I've read through some of the Bicycling Racing Forum on Bicycling.com.
