Imminent Catastrophe

Did a hard trail run today, 13 miles on a really tough trail on Ft. Mountain in just over 3 hours. Serious long climbs and descents on loose rocky trails! Wow, my quads are trashed.

managed a 5 miler today, crisp & mostly clear day, occasional light breeze. I really do love running in this kind of weather.

Russ...any chance you stop and look at the views.  Sounds like a tough 13.

I ran 5.5 out this flat trail at dusk with Nitro running ahead to look for bears.  My husband joined us later and rode back fast with Nitro running hard. Nitro would love me for a running buddy if I could break 15 mph.

I'll try to run 7 on Monday and then I am off to DC for a week of work.  Hope I can run on the Mall

            Hi everyone,

How have you all been? I haven't read any of this thread yet. Just wanted to say Hi!

Just got back from a 5.7K run with Spikey and Spooky. Spike attacked a white bulldog type dog. I really don't know why he doesn't like white dogs.

I"m still trying to get back into a workout routine. I think I very badly crashed and burned back in May. All exercise went out the window, not just the running. I've been putting in some very short doggie runs 2-3 times a week but didn't log many of them. I just wasn't interested. I'm starting to enjoy running again, though I still haven't managed to get past the 10 miles a week. Plus I'm adding back in a LB and UB w/o. I even signed up for a 10K in December.

Run the day, or the day runs you.

Good job on that HM Ayola.  Apart from the hills, wind and traffic, it sounded quite nice.

              Welcome back Dutchie.

Went for a 24km run yesterday, then sat down and watched NZ beat France to win the rugby world cup. Nursing a bit of a hangover this morning.

6 miles this morning, beautiful day here.

Bathroom sink repair going on...only 3 trips back and forth to Home Depot for parts (20 miles each trip - ugh!) should be leakproof and usable now...finally...waiting for glue or silicone or something-or-other to dry.

                Hi Dutchie!! Glad you're back!

                ((Puke))) feel better soon!

Sounds like you made good time on a challenging trail run Friday, PerfesserR. Did you get to take in any scenery or were you too focused on foot plants?

Good progress on increasing your runs, Trey.

How are your legs feeling, Ayola?

Hope you enjoy the trip to DC, Crabby. I hope you get to run on the Mall, too. That would be Something.

What kind of bears is Nitro looking for? not Grizzlies, I hope.

Don't make excuses for why you can't get it done.

Focus on all the reasons why you must make it happen.

                Imminent Catastrophe

As predicted, a big 13k PR (Because I've never run a 13k before). It was a good hard tempo run in 1:05 or so and a good steady pace throughout, which is usually my goal.

Happy and Crabby: Yes, I did stop and smell the roses a few times on that run. It was a beautifully clear, crisp fall day and there are a few points along the trail (which runs around a mountaintop) where there were really nice 100-mile views, with the leaves turning. Wow. And I didn't have any face-plants!

However, my quads are still really sore which means I have a lot of work to do.

Another great day here, sunny and 10*C Canada is really great in the fall. Ran 3 miles fine. Watched the world cup as well - on Sunday afternoon - recorded it so I wouldn't have to get up at 4am - it was an awesome close match. Phew! the national anthem of New Zealand is very beautiful. Thanks, Puke - of course now I'm wondering if I should have left more out on the course... but now I guess its time for hockey.

Legs felt recovered by last Thursday, mainly my quads were trashed which is unusual for me and they were a little cranky after the first run, but I believe this is my best recovery. Usual trouble spots - feet, ankles, calves - are OK. Today back to spin class. Back is a little sore - I need to do alot more core exercises, maybe some indoor rowing.

                    Hi Dutchie!

OK off to a new project construction site, A

                    Recalculating...

I like what I'm seeing.  Everybody seems to be running well or getting back on track.  Nice to have the group mostly back together again.

A - Very nice performance on that half.  I know your cross training will pay off with some speed as soon as you add the miles.

Puke - Knocking out some nice runs recently.  Nice finish on that 66k, you're an ultra beast.

Russ - 3 hours of hard trail running the day before a race, that's hard core.

Trey - A little run therapy is good for the soul.

I managed to pull off my 22 mile training run yesterday.  It went much better than my attempt last weekend but still not perfect.  I added another 20 oz of water to this run and another 200 calories of supplements but I was still pretty trashed at the end.  I went through 72 oz of fluid over 3 hours and still ended up down 6 pounds at the finish.  I'm not sure why I'm dehydrating so much but it is definitely causing me problems.  No more long runs scheduled before the marathon so my plan is to just try to drink as much as I can tolerate on the course and hope for the best.

                      HappyFeat

Jeff - I read somewhere that eating higher salt foods a day or two before the race or long run (and of course drinking lots of water) will make you retain water so you have more on board at the start of the event.

                        ...---...

Jeff - Run therapy. I like the sound of that.

                          -

Can you believe my company is already whispering the words "Transfer" to me ALREADY!?!?! Surprised Heck, I just got here. I'm either doing very well or screwing things up, haha. Well, whatever. At least they're whispering Atlanta and not something like Lonesome Dove, TX.

                          -

Easy 2 mile run today with core and XT light weight exercises.

                            Goooood morning everyone Big grin

                            Yesterday was LB and abs

Today was UB and a 31 min interval run (= 4.75K). Felt hard, but good. Was surprised I could do it.

Trey: good to see you again Smile

Perfesser: congrats on the 13K PR.

Heffa: 22 miles, wow. I did those once upon a time Smile

I think you are right on this.  I have been following a plan of less is more especially the 3 hours leading up to the long run.  I think I am starting out at a deficit because of it.  I'm planning on adding some more hydration leading up to the run.

It seems I won Masters and was 5th overall on Saturday. I like small races!
