...---...

It seems I won Masters and was 5th overall on Saturday. I like small races!

COOL! Not that I put you in my category by any means but the only place medals/trophies I have were from small races. I remember one year in a 10K, there were 3 in my age group...I took 2nd. Big grin But enough about me...Congrats!

Put in 3 miles today. Started a fever last night, swollen, but not sore, throat. Broke the fever this afternoon and went for a run. Expecting a death march, today's run turned out to be one of my better feeling runs so far this year. Go figure.

Hi Dutchie! Likewise, good to "see" you again too.

    Imminent Catastrophe

Awesome hill workout today along a beautiful, secluded creek (except for one Rottweiler encounter). 7 miles up, 7 miles down on a forest road, enough slope to get a good leg workout but not so much that I had to walk. I plan to use this course as a regular hill (and cardio) workout.

I'm a slave to my log. I'm committed to 30 mpw through the end of the year. So, since I'm running a 12K trail "race" on Sunday and wanted to take the two days prior off from running and my "running week" ends on Saturday, I crammed my 30 miles into the last five days in a row. I normally allow 2 rest days within my 30 miles; so this was a stretch. Mission accomplished as of tonight. Legs tired, pyriformis unhappy, but otherwise okay. Still...it was harder than I thought it would be and I' certainly don't feel like doing that again!

As for the "Spooky 12K" this Sunday, I'm not planning on racing it. It sounded like fun though and I'll do the best I can, but no pressure. So far it sounds like it won't be rainy, but may have recently rained - so possibly mud. Should be an adventure. The last time I actually ran a trail race was about 5 years ago.

MTA: Forgot to respond to Perfesser's "rottweiler encounter" - WTF? that sounds potentially scary!! Otherwise, your new route sounds Perfect!

        ...---...

No angry dogs on my 3 mile treadmill run this morning. A view of St. Louis through the hotel fitness center window made the miles go by quickly. No, I'm not in town for the world series...bummer.

I'm bad about this, too.  I will change the day of my long run just to make the log numbers work out better.

I'll be running the Wicked 10K in the morning here in Virginia Beach.  They are calling for 45F and rainy.  Sounds like some beautiful weather for a run....not!  I'm not really looking forward to it since I have no real goal for the race except to get a good hard tempo run out of it.  I would almost rather wait for the afternoon when the rain stops but I'm kind of cheap like that.  I paid for the race, darn it, I'm going.  My goal is to run sub 44 with a stretch of sub 43.  Too many people running it to think about knocking out an AG and trying to keep up with Russ.

Sounds like the forecast for my Spook 12K trail race on Sunday - plus since it rained buckets today and forecast is for more tomorrow, there ought to be plenty of MUD! I've been reminding myself that it will be an adventure...a break from the routine...an exhilarating "fun run" with other crazies...l'll let you know what the reality is on Sunday night.

Heh, I've been known to do long runs on Monday then the following Sunday. It really makes my week look impressive.

Yeah, Trey, one  minute I'm running along a peaceful creek in the forest and the next minute I'm face-to-face with a snarling Rottie. His family was out camping and called him off, and on my return they had him chained. Still, it was a scary moment and I won't forget my pepper spray next time. Just in case.

Long run is planned for Sunday in NYC, and the forecast is for a Nor'Easter to hit Saturday night. Lovely. Snow!

The 10K went well today.  The weather held off until after the race so that worked out pretty good.  It was about 55F and very windy for the race.  I was looking for bodies to hide behind for the whole race.  The last 1.2 was right on the beach with nothing to block the 30 mph wind, I know that cost me some time.  Ended up with a time of 43:13 which I am very happy with considering the conditions.  Then on the walk back to the car I got drenched in a downpour.

Jeff, you are speedy! Congrats. I'm not hitting the log hard at all, but I ran a lovely 5 miles in a crisp sunny 0*C. First snow tomorrow...

MTA: No snow, boo. Freezing rain - off the the treadmill and sauna.

The Spooky 12K was loads of fun - hilly but not too bad. The rain held off and the trail was not very muddy either due to the forest canopy. The last mile was a little "technical" - narrow, twisty, short up/downs, leaf-covered surface roots laying in wait - one tripped me, but I didn't fall.  My finish time was 1:15  Since I had no expectation of how I'd do, and I'm quite happy with that. I would need to do some more hill work to be able to run any faster on that course.

Good job on achieving your time goal for the Wicked 10K, Jeff. Glad the rain held off for you too.

Glad to read of everyone's races and outings. It's inspiring and a bit of a carrot to chase. Slowly but surely, I'm building mileage. Knock on wood, so far, no issues like shin splints or tight tendons/IT Band etc. I felt strong yesterday and today, albeit short distances,  but strong none-the-less. I'll have to run in Vegas this next week...not happy about that given the crappy running around the strip. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have the luxury of time to get out and run anywhere away from there. But, I'll make the best of it...it could be a lot worse.

Russ - how'd the snow run go?

Went out for a run in the dark this morning.  I thought the forecast called for upper 30's so I dressed in jacket and gloves.  Actual temp was 50 (you'd think the fact that there was no frost on my windshield would have clued me in).  Unfortunately, the only reflective gear I had was my jacket so it was a hot run.  Just getting conditioned for next summer.

Total of 40 minutes running and ~3.8 miles.  Took a look at the chart and there's a very real chance the bunny might catch me before the end of the year.  Oh well, he's a nice bunny anyway.

Thanks for the race updates, Jeff and Happy

Had a pretty good 20 in Central Park. What a mess! Lots of branches and some trees down everywhere from the wet snow on leaves that hadn't fallen and the high winds. There was still some slush on the roads and it was VERY crowded, especially along the south end of the loop. Still, I felt pretty good at the end and no problems. Then had a nice Gyro and spinach pie at the street fair on Madison Avenue. And finally caught the rodent! (for now anyway).

MTA: The bleachers for the NYCM finish line are up!

I had a non-running related hip injury last week. But It's much better now so Monday I did a 1 mile run on the TM. Very impressive Roll eyes And biceps/triceps and core. Today was chest/back/shoulders and another 1 mile run on the TM.

Heffa: great finish time for your 10K

Happy: still think your speed was impressive on the 12K
