Hello summer!
Its still a bit cool here, tomatoes are quite unhappy...
Had to be in the office this morning, but I grabbed a knapsack and jogged down the waterfront - an easy 3 miles. Tomorrow 70 minute run.
How is everyone else doing?

Still, you're getting some decent workouts in. Good for you!
I had a setback last week, accidentally catching my foot getting out of the car and yanking my leg/hamstring/sciatic nerve - whatever! Just ruined me for a few days. Back in the saddle now though. Had a pleasant 10-mile LR yesterday and a rejuvenating 6-mile trail run today. I'm going to see the massage therapist of a friend tomorrow and see if we can sort out my recurring left hamstring/glute tightness/pain. I think the June 22 5K race effort is out of the picture with all this; but we'll see. I'm trying to get my miles back up mainly right now.
Update: The massage was Worthless!!! I'm going back to my tennis ball. Despite that, I had a nice run tonight.
Don't make excuses for why you can't get it done.
Focus on all the reasons why you must make it happen.
Sorry about the massage - was it at least relaxing?
Short run this morning - very beautiful but very slow. I'm incorporating a big hill into a couple of weekly runs.
Puke - Winter? I hear ya. Its finally above 15C here and I'm in a mild panic about if the tomatoes will make it before winter returns.
You can never go wrong with adding a hill into the mix.
I think I will have another go at a tempo run tonight. This time will be reps of half-mile at 5K target pace with quarter-mile recoveries. It's a last ditch effort at preparing for the June 22 5K. Should be fun! It will either go well or I'll relapse my left glute pain.
Imminent Catastrophe
Headed to Utah tomorrow for Bryce 50 Miler, it looks spectacular. It's 7000-9500 ft, should be tough.

Good luck in the race, Russ! If you're going there tomorrow, can we assume you will have time to adjust to the elevation change? Is this a large event? I don't think you've mentioned it before; so - first time? I'll be thinking of you on Saturday when I'm doing my own long run....your ultras always put my tiny efforts into perspective.
I checked out the Bryce photos on Facebook, I love the clear sky and ridges in the distance. Good luck on the 50 miler Perfesser! Wow.
In an alternate universe, another short slow run this morning. Warm, rainy and lush as all of the foliage is full and green.
Happy Friday, A
What was Bryce like for you, PerfesserR?? Did you take any photos? Hope it was great!
I had a good LR yesterday and was happy to find my Wed night tempo didn't tire my legs too much for it. No big tempo planned this week since the 5K is next weekend. However, I'll throw in some 400 meter reps at race pace if my legs feel like it on Tuesday..just to remind them what I'd like them to do on Sunday.
Doesn't Ze have an ultra this month?
I have seen the photos of Russ's 50 miler. Absolutely stunning.
Had to chuckle about your temperature Ayola. our low has been about 4 deg C and a high of 18. It is a mild winter for us so far. But wet.
Bummer about the injury Happy, although it doesn't sound like it has slowed you down at all.....
With me...well I have entered Tarawera ultra.....again. Determined to actually train properly for it this time rather than just rocking up on the day. Been doing a few runs, but nothing too big.
Escorted a few friends on a run over our local mountain. One of them was planning to enter a multisport race that has the run leg on the same track so she wanted to to see what it was like. Consequently after discovering how steep and technical it was she decided she would enter a team instead. Which is how I have somehow ended up with the job of doing the run as part of the team. I went for another practice run over the mountain again last weekend. Managed to have a couple of really nasty falls while pushing hard downhill. Luckily just a few scrapes and ripped clothes. Was a bit sore for a couple of days but OK now. The race is this Saturday.....once again under trained :-)
I must start training next week.....have actually approached a coach, thinking that having someone telling me what to do may make me actually do it....watch this space.
Have a good weekend everyone
Good luck, Puke! Hope the team effort is a load of fun and that the weather cooperates. I also hope you got all your falls out of the way for awhile.
A coach is a great idea! I engaged one (online) to help me train for the marathon last October and got so much out of it. I learned a lot for one thing. Then there's the accountability factor, which I think enabled me to do workouts I may not have otherwise tried. I've tried to get things going again with her, but not sure she's still into it...still waiting for a reply.
Where did you see Russ's photos of Bryce? How did he fare?
Well I have to get ready for work now. Have a great day everyone!
Facebook stalking............
ohhh...I'm not on FB...
Puke - good luck on that trail relay, 4-18C I believe is the forecast for today, first day of summer! Hopefully warmer tomorrow.
Stressful week, I managed (4) 30 minute runs including this morning - definitely helped (thanks Happy). Tomorrow, I'll try something around 75 minutes as the long run.
Happy Saturday, A
Good luck with your LR, Ayola. Take it easy. 75 minutes will be a big jump from 30 and pacing will be key.
I had my first opportunity to go trail running after work yesterday. We did 6 energetic and fun miles and saw a barred owl fly through the canopy and land on a tree branch staring at us with great curiosity. I guess that's not a good thing - that we saw it - since they are non-native invaders, but it was pretty neat anyway.
SRD today, then 5K race tomorrow. Once again, I am undertrained going into it; so it will be the usual "fitness test." 26:30 would be nice though and a new best time.
