Those of you with more than 2 letters join in too.  I ran my 1st long run in a long time last night.  It took absolute discipline to keep it slow and take the planned walk breaks.  I stopped thinking I could have hit 20 pretty easy - But "I step at a time", I got home and realized I was pretty spent.

I am in horrible shape ... it was a 4 run / 2 walk.  Run = 6.3MPH and walk 4.0MPH ... no incline.  I have decided to take it easier on the incline for now ... I think elevation is adding to my knee issues.

Poor shape today ... 50 Mile trail race in 80 days ... I feel like Super Dave planning to jump the Grand Canyon.

This is 75% more spring racing than I've attempted for years.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll remain healthy enough to tackle them all.

My race times will be very slow this year - But I can finally accept who I am and where I am right here and right now and take joy in running whatever time I can achieve.  I have nothing to prove to myself or anyone else ... I love the challenge of racing.

I am 80% there for my statements above ... But I need to get over the other 20% of my self pity and embarrassment.

                Prince of Fatness

                  11/4 - MrFinn - D & L Half Marathon - goal sub 1:50

At age 55 my days of going for lifetime PRs are behind me but this would be a 4 minute improvement over the same race last year.   That’s all I’ve got.

                  Not at it at all.

Alright, I'll jump in. I have 3 races I care about this year...

5/20 Sugarloaf Marathon - Idea here is to BQ, which doesn't seem anywhere near as much of a given as it used to. Goal is 3:23:03.

10/7 Chicago Marathon - Goal is to run a hell of a lot faster than I did in May and get back closer to what I'm capable of. Too soon to pick a goal time yet.

After Chicago I'll wrap myself in bubble wrap and lay the hell down for 12 days, and then...

10/20 Ghost Train 100 Miler - I've run it twice now in almost exactly the same time. I intend to take a big chunk out of that this time. Again, too soon to say how big of a chunk.

A list of my PRs in a misguided attempt to impress people that do not care.

2/24 mtrunr - Dumm and Dummer 5KM - Lewiston, Idaho

I wanted sub 20, ended up with a 20:01.  I'll take it.  I pressed the final mile, so I did embrace the hurt....

                      3/4 - mtrunr - Hot Chocolate 15KM - Seattle, Washington

This race went pretty well.  Hilly course, so certainly not a gimme.  Since I had never run a 15 km prior, I wasn't sure what to think.  I've been doing plenty of conditioning (base running) lately so I figured the distance wouldn't be an issue, and it wasn't.  I was on the red line for the first 7 miles, and then I pressed the final 2.3 miles to the finish.  The last mile was definitely in the "pain" zone.  Honestly, that's what I remember about how a race is supposed to feel.  Ran 1:04:28 when I was looking for a 1:07:00.  Of course hitting a goal only leads to dreaming of a much tougher goal.  Next up a fast 3 mile in late April.

We cannot be the "Hurtlocker" unless we embrace the pain of racing !

                        mtrunr - nice 15k time

                        C-R ... 14 is a nice combo run / race

I am looking for another short race for April ... I picked something local April 14th ... Only issue is I really will need some long trail runs and  I hate to take a prime weekend 4 weeks out for a short race.  Right now I plan on running a long trail run on Sunday on tired legs.

                        6 weeks to go from 39:20 5 miler = 7:52 to a < 45 minute 10k = 7:15 sounds about right if I actually train and lose 20#

Long dead ... But my stench lingers !

I am 49 ... I hold onto a very small hope that I could run a lifetime PR in something ... But not in my current fat-ass shape.

                          Heck I have never run a track race or a 1 / 2 / 20 mile road race .... or a 12k / 30k / 60k / 80k or a 100k race.

                          11/4 - MrFinn - D & L Half Marathon - goal sub 1:50

Only been training since Jan 1, no goal but my hope is to break 24:00.

Congrats on hitting 327 days today.  That is an amazing accomplishment.  Good luck with your continued training to hit that goal.  It's all about consistency, as you know better than anyone.
