Thinking of you, Hilary. You have the right to demand aggressive care. I hope  they can medicate the pain AND find the source pronto. Hugs.

So here's a quick update. Xray was normal. She thinks its coming from my spine. So it may be a disc injury or something that's impinging on a nerve. Now I have freaking foot drop. Good thing I demanded to be seen. Waiting in the er now. going to have an MRI and meet with a specialist. This came at the most awful time. School starts today for my last semester. Good thing its online. One day at a time.

Hilary - I'm sorry for all of this.  Sad   If you have a foot drop, I am glad you are getting the MRI.  It has nerve/spine written all over it.   Ugh.

Ok, so first, dunno how I missed this this morning, but very sorry to hear you're in such pain.  Task #1.....Get you out of pain!!

And I had to read up on foot drop.  I had no idea (aside from the obvious) what that is.

Curious......did you know you had it or did the doc have you walk & check you out to diganose??

And if you did know you had it, was it just recently??   Or maybe even just today as they tested you??

Do please keep us updated.  Many of us here are already waiting & will jump at the opportunity to shower you with feedback & well-wishes, plus I'm sure there's more than a few lurkers here who are curious too.

You're in good company here.  Well, I dunno if I'd go so far as to say "good" but, well, we're here.  I'm pretty sure a good handful of us are "bad company" at best & certainly a "bad influence" if nothing else, but you get the gist.

Still waiting for the MRI. I am at least getting pain control now. I'll tell you, my anxiety has skyrocketed. Being a patient and nurse sucks and overhearing everyone's tasks etc.is a bit weird. So used to being on the other side and I really hate not having control of what is going on. Thanks for the well wishes everyone. Oh and I have not eaten since yesterday. That doesn't help.

Forgot to mention that I did not notice the foot drop till today. I have been unable to bear weight without excruciating pain since yesterday. It's a bit scary when my knee reflex in my left leg is absent too.

                    Will run for scenery.

Wow, Hilary.  I'm sorry to hear you're in so much pain and stress.   I'm off to google foot drop, but I can guess it's not good.  My mom was a nurse her whole career and now when she's in the hospital (2 knee replacements, etc.) it's like she's back at work.  Once a nurse....

                      Stupid feet!

MRI showed no change from 2010. Thank God!  Obviously my sciatic nerve is still inflamed since I'm having so much pain. He put me on a steroid pack. Going back to see the neurosurgeon next week. Can't wait to sleep tonight. Thanks all.

Thought I would check in with you guys with an update. I am going to see my neurosurgeon today to sort some of this out. I am still having pain despite taking the med medication I hate to take. I absolutely hate how they make me feel. I still can't walk without pain and the spasms are still there. I had a conversation with a friend yesterday and she said she had the same thing with her si joint and physical therapy helped. I go to PT tomorrow. I am praying that they can help. I don't remember my back pain being this bad. I am out of work and cannot do my clinicals for school right now. I'm pretty much home bound for now other than going to appointments. Trying to remain optimistic and looking at this like an opportunity to rest. LOL. I've been so busy with work, school, and running these past few years, that maybe this is a sign. Its not a good one though, but the body responds to stress in different ways. My husband has been great. I could not get through this without him. Running is the last thing on my mind. My goal is to get healthier and find balance in my life. I get very anxious and sad that I have no control over this, but turning it over to my faith helps. I hope everyone else is well and getting better. Thanks for the concern the other day.

Hilary, soak up the rest and stay strong. You're doing great. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I went to the sports medicine doc today and had a fantastic experience. My left knee has more mechanical problems than my right by far. I have patellar tendinitis (runners knee), plus some weakness and mobility issues. I got a patellar strap and I'll have about 6 weeks of PT to learn how to tape and strengthen, especially my glutes, and learn some foam rolling trigger points. They think they may also be able to minimize my pronation. As for my shins, since I have point pain on the front edge of my shin bones, they ordered an MRI for next Tuesday morning to rule out stress fractures.

The bestest part? I'm cleared to run! She says I can do 50% of volume for now, so 6-8 miles instead of 12-15. I'm so relieved and felt like I got excellent care. I'm heading out for 2 miles after work. It's wee, but I'll take it! And I should be in good shape to ramp up well before half marathon training.

Happy to hear this. It help so much when you feel like you are getting somewhere. I think that every runner whether injured or not should have a good phyio or physical therapist. We all have weaknesses and compensate one way or another. I will most likely be in physical therapy for awhile too working on strength and getting back to health again. Good luck!
