          Are we there, yet?

Thanks, everyone. One of the reasons I don't consider this a BIG milestone is that it's well within most people's capabilities. All it takes is a lot of time and persistence. If you work out the numbers, it averages slightly less than 4.5 miles per day and slightly more than 1640 miles a year. While I haven't checked people's logs, from what I've seen in the goals for the 2014in2014 game, there are a lot of you that plan to run that much this year, some much farther. As long as running is a life style and life long habit, quite a few of you could reach that number.

             2024 Races:

                  03/09 - Livingston Oval Ultra 6-Hour, 22.88 miles

                  05/11 - D3 50K
                  05/25 - What the Duck 12-Hour

                  06/17 - 6 Days in the Dome 12-Hour.

After I recorded my mileage today, 45 years, 8 months, and 8 days after I began running as an adult, my total mileage logged was 75,000.2 miles.

WOW!  My 45K is nothing compared to that!   And 45 years running too, way to go!   Both of those are definitely not SMALL milestones!

Here's to your next 75,000 George!

How many pairs of shoes did that involve?

How many pairs of shoes did that involve?

Hard to say how many pairs of shoes. When I was a poor student I'd wear shoes until they almost literally fell apart. I remember using ShoeGu, gluing pieces of the sole from worn out pairs to rebuild the heels, and using athletic tape to hold the uppers together. So the net result is that I've gotten as much as 3000 miles out of one pair, though I've also had shoes I had to pitch after 600 miles. It's probably only about 50-55 pairs of shoes.

Congratulations. I would ecstatic to reach half of either of those milestones.
