Fear is a Liar

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here.

Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."

It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Dad on the run.

Hey Gustav, thanks for getting us started!

Race went great Saturday, afterwards we took our DD out. We went to Kobe japanese steak house and then to the movies. We watched Free Birds, I didn't think Ender's game would be appropriate for a 3 year old Smile

Will head out tonight for 3 or 4

        Gustva and Jimmy, good morning.

Did 4M easy today. Ran 18M on new Asics DS trainer 17 I got a while back. Felt ok and this will probably be my marathon shoes. Elixirs has 300+ and inspires has 200+. So, either break out my unopened elixir or the DS trainer. Had a little leg pain while racing 20M on the old elixir, so I think I need a little more support.

          Barking Mad To Run

This week I did my 60th, 61st and 62nd races of 2013.  Two of them were on Saturday, one in the morning and one in the evening.

Sunday, I took a rest day and just watched football.  My Redskins finally won a game.  Didn't help any, though, the Damn Dallas Cowboys also won.

Today I brought my running gear to run after work, but we are supposed to get some 'iffy' weather, so if there are major thunderstorms, I will take another off day of running and maybe just work out at the gym.

            Fear is a Liar

              Good Morning Penguins!

Reading lots of race reports! Things have been interesting. Long runs tend to be my nemesis. A couple weekends ago I wound up with a stiffness/soreness in my calf. I still kind of have it. I had it once before and it went away. So my running cooled down. I only ran 3 times last week - doing the quality only workouts. Well yesterday I ran an 8+ easy run. A half hour later I got something out of the kitchen, turned and my knee locked up and hurt. It went away after about 3 hours on it's own. So needless to say I have been kind of moody - my target 5k is this Saturday.

Anyway - the highlight of the weekend was the annual Halloween party where 4 of us get dressed as the rock band Kiss. You could tell it was a good party because we got a visit from the ATF - Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms!

                Good morning everyone.

                SRD for me.

                Dad on the run.

Gustav - ATF! That's awesome, hahaha. How did that conversation go?

                  Smaller By The Day

jblackjr - I read your RR, and haven't had a chance to comment yet.  Pretty impressive considering all of the issues you've had lately.  Stay healthy, and you're going to do big things.

Bin - I think that having the right shoes is really important, and the distance of the run seems to really make a difference in shoe choice.  I think you're wise to experiment a bit with that.

Jerry - I'm with you.  I might do some sort of workout today, but not running...lol

Scotty - Thanks for giving me plenty of reading material for later tonight.  :-)  I should probably get caught up on yard work too, but I'll try to make time for a race report or two as well.  I really thought Romo was going to blow it again in the 4th quarter.  He did throw a pick in the final minutes AGAIN!  He has almost mastered the art of the 4th quarter loss.  Let's hope that yesterday wasn't the start of a trend.

Gustav - The ATF?  I need to party with you sometime.  Wow!  That's weird about your knee.  Hopefully, it was just a fluke.  Good luck this weekend.

Phillie - Enjoy your rest day.

AFM - I have jury duty this week...blah!  I did get my race report up for my debut marathon.  I think most of you found it.  I'm feeling alright today.  My legs are a little sore.  I have the compression socks on.  I feel like I could go for a recovery run tonight, but I'll probably just walk the dog instead.  My next race is a Thanksgiving 5K.  I don't think that any quality running between now and then will really make a difference, and recovery is probably the most important factor at this point.  Time to tighten the screws on my diet, and relax a little bit.

                    Have a great day!

Awood - I replied to you in my RR but your more likely to see it here so...

"Thanks Awood, that means a lot, especially considering where you have came from. There is several people here I really admire to name a few would be you, Dtothe2nd and Zelanie. Seeing where ya'll came from to where ya'll are now is truely inspiring."

Hey everyone, I need to get 5 miles in before nap time, (night shift this week), but I have my one year checkup at the lung doctor first. I should have run earlier but been doing some housework. Did y'all see my pics in yesterday's thread?

Jimmy, your time on that 10k was excellent!

                        Awood, loved your RR.

Scotty, you are a machine! 62 for the year? Wow!

Bin, I have found some of my higher mileage shoes do the best.

Gustav, I hope yor knee is okay, I'm eager to hear about your race. You've been putting in some serious training.

                        Zelanie

Good morning!  My miles game team is on to round 2, which starts today.  If you didn't sign up last year, I hope you will this year- it's been a ton of fun!  As far as how many miles I'm running, that's classified. Wink  But some of them will be at tempo pace.

Jimmy- Sounds like a good weekend!

Bin- Glad you've found your marathon shoes!

Jimmy- Have a good time at the gym!

Scotty- Hoping for clear skies for you!

Gustav- That sounds like a serious party!  Hopefully the leg is just one of those "pre-goal-race" quirks.

                          Margo- Enjoy the RD!

Awood- I've noticed with my shoes that even though they don't show a lot of wear, they get really thin right on the middle of the forefoot.  And that's where I also have a callous on both feet.  So I'm thinking of using that as my guide for when to replace my shoes, when that part gets too thin.

Mitch- Good luck at the checkup!  I did see your photos yesterday!  Love the pose!  I didn't comment because most of the evening was "family time" yesterday, which was totally worth it. Smile

                          Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  Wow, some awesome running and racing going on this weekend!!  I skimmed through the weekend threads, too many folks to congratulate!  My weekend was chock-full of nothing, which in and of itself is kind of nice.  I'm looking toward a busy holiday season of singing, so I'm kind of jealous about my weekends otherwise.  I did attempt homemade yeasty cinnamon rolls, but they didn't get baked all the way through.  So I have cream-cheese frosted doughwads.  Blech.

jblack -- glad your race was awesome!!

Bin -- glad you're enjoying the shoe search!!

Jerryb -- have a good SRD!!

Scotty -- stay inside if there's lightning!!

Gustav -- the party sounds pretty crazy!!

Phillie -- have a good SRD!!

awood -- glad your debut marathon was a good one!!

hog -- I saw the pics of your grandkids running, woo-hoo!!

Zelanie -- glad you guys are still in the running, so to speak!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Zel, classified? This is funny! I can't help it. I remember seeing posts like that last year. Maybe for 2014 I can join the team of secretness, hehe.

                                Morning all,

I felt like I was finally starting to get into a groove with the first half of October and then in the second half of October I hit a funk and didn't run for a week and a half.  Got in a decent run on Saturday and  a horribly crappy run this morning (both four miles).  The first 20 minutes made me want to quit because it was so frickin' cold.  The second 20 minutes I felt better, but was still unhappy about being cold and thought about how nice it would be to not workout, be fat and have a layer of insulation around my belly to keep me warm...

I am contemplating signing up for the Miles game.  I have never consistently run for a whole year and with no babies scheduled in 2014 I have no excuses.
