Zero To Fifty - The Monday Penguins (Read 35 times)

Fear is a Liar

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Fear is a Liar

      Good Morning Penguins!

So it was almost zero degrees yesterday, it's 52 right now, and tomorrow will be almost zero again. Anyway, visitors are gone and today is my first day back to work. The icy conditions are putting a hurtin on my mileage. Made some sensible purchases - ice spikes for my shoes and a Road ID. Also, tried on some Hokas - the LRS is ordering my size so I shall see what they feel like. Right now with the mileage I am currently running I feel I need a shoe with a little more cushioning. I also feel that I have a heavier foot fall when I run in the dark - anyone else notice this?

      Skirt Runner

Gustav we have the same thing going on. Yesterday was cold, today is 52 friggin degrees but it is supposed to get down to 0 or even into the negative temps tonight.

I went to spin class this morning! Modified what the instructor said, didn't stand at all and sometimes did a slightly less resistance or cadence than prescribed but I did get to the 20 miles that she had set as a goal for the class! Woo Hoo!!!!

        Barking Mad To Run

Rest day for me today.   Even the San Antonio weather is crazy.  28 freakin' degrees this morning!  Very unusual for us!  Supposed to be like that several mornings this week, with our highs only in the 50s for the days.    However, we don't get the ice or snow like you folks do, so I should still be able get my running in after work.

          Return To Racing

Good Morning Gus, Kristin, Scotty and Pengs.  14 Below here.  Think we will run inside today after work.  Yesterday we did put the YaxTrax on and took a walk.

            Stay warm !!

Jerry - which Yak Trax do you have and how are they? I decided to go with Icespikes because I have to deal more with ice. I was looking at the Yak Trax Run but both LRS were out.

YaxTrax Pro.  They work well, but seem kind of flimsy.  No spikes, just springy bands. The Run version has spikes.  There is a thread in the Gear forum.

Jerry - I saw the springs and thought about how they would wear. I think my concern is black ice and icy/snow sections. Most of my running would probably still be on pavement. I do like that the Yak Trax go on and off quickly.

12 hour shift for me today, maybe a run tonight when I get off.

Gustav, I have the same weird feeling when running at night. It's almost as though I'm anticipating to step in a hole or hit a rock, makes for an odd foot stike.

Kristin - good to see that you are active again! Did you give the boot "the boot"?

Morning!  6 miles today.  I better run since I have not run in two days.

I ran 3.5 miles this morning.  Initial plan was to run seven, but I got woken up several times throughout the kids last night and getting that extra bit of sleep won out.  Today definitely feels like a Monday.  Maybe cup of coffee #2 will wake me up...

Morning, penguins!  RD here and first day back to work.  Hopefully I can catch up with all the things that I didn't do over break.

Gustav- I was paying attention to the "cold, hot, cold" thing yesterday on my LR.  It was pretty typical winter temps yesterday, and I think I was dressed and paced appropriately.  From 0-30 minutes, I was cold, and had my mittens on.  From 30-60, I had warmed up and took them off altogether.  From 60-90, I put them back on.  From 90 minutes on (I ran just over 2 hours), I had bunched up into a ball inside the mittens.  This was even though I was a bit faster towards the end of the run than the beginning.

Kristin- Great job at spin class!

                              Scotty- Enjoy the RD!

Jerry- Have a good run later!

PAD- Good luck on the tempo!

Mitch- Hope that you feel like a run when you get off.

D- Good luck getting the miles in!

Lew- I could use a cuppa as well!

Hello all. Runs of 6.2 Friday, 3.1 miles Saturday, and 5 miles Sunday. Today is a rest day. I had my first anti-social media weekend this last weekend; therefore, I didn't post or read any message board all weekend. It was very productive. My family visited Uptown Dallas on Saturday. I got half of my honey do list finished on Sunday.
