Zel, you are going to SLAUGHTER 1:59, and now you know this.  Very good race.  It looks like the HM will be a big confidence booster for you, and additionally will put your training thus far and going forward into an improved perspective.  I truly hope that is the case, and may the force be with you Smile

        Wow Zelanie, you rocked it!

          Wickedly Average

Very nice run, Z. You've gotten some decent speed, even since your December 5K. I can see a 1:55:00 - ish HM in your future. Maybe even a little quicker.

            Go figure

Fantastic job!  Those splits are awesome, and if you can build into your half like that you will do so well.  Your mileage and training have been great and I'm so happy to see you get this exciting result.  Getting your 10k PR by that much and still having the finish you did is really great.  It is tricky when to know when to "go" if you've been holding back, but you still have some time to develop that feeling for the HM.  You're probably right about needing some new training paces, but just remember that you don't necessarily need to train at PR pace (if that makes sense).  In other words, if the plan calls for 10 mile pace, doing a training run at 10 mile PR pace is a bad recipe.  Anyway, to end on a good note, you're gonna kill that half.

Most excellent! You will have a very solid first HM! I love how accurate your husband was with his prediction. And it's adorable that he spent some time thinking about your race pace and that he had confidence that you'd beat your goal. :-) Congratulations on your great race!

                Love the Half

A thought about grabbing the water from cups so that you don't have to carry anything.  Practice it just like you'd  practice anything else.  Set up some cups on the trunk of your car or something like that and practice grabbing them as you come by at race speed.  Once you grab a cup, pinch it closed in the middle so that you only have a "V" left in the side.  Suck it down.

Looks like you ran a really nice race.

                  Short term goal: 17:59 5K

                  Mid term goal:  2:54:59 marathon

Long term goal: To say I've been a runner half my life.  (I started running at age 45).

                      Fear is a Liar

Awesome job and a great RR! Looks like all your training is paying off.

Zel, your RR is very well written, wish I could do that. Anyways, congratulations on a great execution. You are going to have a great HM, I can't wait to see how you do. You and I are feeling the same about these longer distances, my 5k this morning sucked.

                          Zelanie

Interesting.  Over in the HM trainers group, MilkTruck was saying that I should probably adjust my HM goal pace, but keep my training paces the same.  And it sort of makes sense.  What I've been doing has worked well, and what I *don't* want to do is jeopardize the work I've put in during the last few weeks.  I think what I'll probably do is just not stress on the days that I feel like I'm running easy and yet my pace is faster than what McMillan says "should" feel easy.

Pink- Isn't that always how it is?  I think that's one of the things I like about running, actually.  No matter how much I improve, there's always some new incremental goal to work towards.

                            April- Thank you!

Cherie- You are no slouch yourself, you know!  I have appreciated all of your kind comments along the way!

Scott- Thanks!  I know I can get too wordy, but at least I try to keep it organized.

                            tinman- Thanks!

Luke- I sure hope so!  I've felt like I was in sub-2 shape for a while now, but wasn't sure what scary juju happens during a race to make that possible.  Nothing like experience for something like that.

Jerry- I'm looking forward to your race coming up soon!

                            Bozy, Jenny- Thanks!

Tom- Yeah, sub 1:55 I think is the new goal.

SIAR- Makes sense.  And from the feedback from the other group I don't think I'm going to knock myself out with hard tempos between now and then.  I'll do the work in the plan, provided I recover well from this one, but don't need to go nuts.

Lily- Exactly!  The fact that he has listened enough to my rambling that he even knew a reasonable increment of time to use for his estimate means a lot.  And yesterday when I saw him coming back from his walk while I was headed out for my run, he even remembered how far I was planning to run that day.

LTH- Thanks for the water advice.  I will use it, but probably not until after the HM.  That will be my next thing to work on I think. Smile  I did really like being able to have a sip whenever I wanted, as much as I used to always hate to carry anything while I ran (I've only had the handheld like a month and I still don't usually bring it at all).

Dan- Thanks!  I think the trick for me is not to worry about running fast.  I like running more miles instead.  But that's one thing I like about you- you found a totally different route into running that works for you.

                            Oski- Thank you!

Gustav- Looking forward to your RR tomorrow!

                              Congrats Zelanie!

What a well-run tuneup race -- you pushed yourself just the right amount and built some confidence.  And yes, you should be able to finish the half at a similar pace.   Once those first ten miles are done, then it's only a 5K and time to pour it on.  Smile

You are not alone on the cups, I still have to slow down if I want to actually drink the whole thing instead of wearing most of it, even using the squeeze.

                              Zelanie

Mitch- I'm sorry you had a bad 5K today.  I think what I like the most about running is just getting into a groove and staying there.  You just can't do that in a 5K, unless you're really good at taking your mind on some tropical vacation while the body suffers, I guess.

Shirfan- Thanks!  I actually practiced some of that "hey, there's only a 5K left" today.  Any little way to mark progress is good!
