Are You An Inconvenienced Wednesday Penguin? (Read 25 times)

Barking Mad To Run

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Barking Mad To Run

Happy Hump Day!  The Holidays on February 25th are:

      • Inconvenience Yourself Day - February 25, 2015 (4th Wednesday in February) - it's not about you being inconvenienced; it's about you inconveniencing yourself today to do something for others, like random acts of kindness and so forth.  But just out of curiosity, what is inconveniencing you today?  Me...I'd rather not be at work...

      • National Clam Chowder Day (my wife loves clam chowder;  AFM, this is another food I don't like)

Image result for funny clam chowder

      • National Chocolate Covered Nuts Day (don't get any ideas, guys, for your wives later... )

      • National Pistol Patent Day - Sam Colt patented his revolver pistol this day in 1836.   And all the Texans were happy....

      • Quiet Day -  I said it's QUIET DAY!

Yes, the dense fog this morning made my commute inconvenient. I have 7 miles tonight.

It is snowing today, but it is 33 degrees so it isn't sticking. I will do a short run tonight. Probably 2 miles.

I am starting to wonder if I need to ditch squats. I don't want to, but I might be forced to. They are a pain in my ass (piriformis).

          Personal Bests:

          800M - 2:38 (5/28/13) | 1 Mile -5:54 (5/28/13) | 3K - 11:55 (12/29/12) | 2M - 13:00 (12/1/12) | 5K - 20:00 (4/12/13) | 13.1M - 1:37:24 (2/3/13)

Morning, Penguins!!  Hmm, inconvenience?  Well, work is always full of inconveniences.  People just never do quite what I want them to do!!  I have quartet rehearsal tonight, which will be all kinds of good.  We have a gig on Friday, singing a couple of songs to some dude's wife for his anniversary.  We'll be brushing up our best love songs!!

Docket -- sorry about the fog, but have a good 7!!

Hey, Tex!!  I've heard pigeon pose is good for stretching your piriformis.  Is there someone around who can check your squat form?  Maybe that's an issue ...

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

              Hi Pens.

Inconvenience? My latest injury is very inconvenient. How's that?

              No running for me today.

              Have fun out there.

              Return To Racing

Being in my dentist's office right now is very inconvenient.  Then I will test the old calf at the track.

Clearly we are not a chatty bunch today!!  I had a phone meeting which was a bit more involved than it should've been.  I was sort of glad it was a phone meeting, because then I could play Candy Crush while I waited for them to get to the next slide.

                  From the Internet.

                    Hi pens

My calves not functioning is mildly inconvenient. Got both calves and my left hip needled this morning, Traci you are correct - the calves definitely hurt more than hip! Strength work/stretching has been fine on my own, so that's all we did today. My PT said that she wouldn't discharge me so that I can make an appointment to come in for needling whenever I need it and have insurance cover it. Score! Big grin

I ran after - 3 super easy miles, I figured getting the blood flowing might loosen them up. Felt good while I was running but back to stiff now. Oh well. Trying not to sit too much or else I might not be able to hobble back to my car later.

Tex, I had to lay off squats for my ITBS and focus on more targeted strengthening for the glutes - weak glute medius was crapping out and putting too much stress on the TFL/IT band. Could be a similar thing, some other muscle not activating properly and transferring its workload to the piriformis. I still haven't gotten back to the barbell just due to time constraints lately, I kinda miss it but running without injury is my number one priority. If you don't want to flat out give it up you could also just try deloading a fair amount and then working back up to your current weight, see if it's a form thing that you can fix that way.

Jack, do you have a good PT nearby? I'd see one sooner rather than later if you can, it really can help you get back on track quickly.

                    Zelanie

Having all of this work to do is very inconvenient as far as actually getting work done.

I ran my track workout last night, and am feeling it today! Tonight will be 6 ish easy with the dogs.

Yes, I might reduce the number of squats I do and try to work up again later. I was doing fine while doing exercises with no running. Now I started running it has hit. I recall stopping squats completely about 1 1/2 years ago because of piriformis issues. I would like to keep them in my routine though because I want to keep a strong core to avoid future injuries.

Having a hamstring strain is definitely inconvenient.  Not horribly painful, but worrisome.

Hi Scotty - any running today?

Damaris - enjoy your seven later.  Is fog common down there?  I wouldn't think you'd get the right conditions very often.

Jack - I hope the healing continues.

Jerry - good luck testing your leg.

Lauren - ouch!  I hope you don't hurt too much later.

Z - enjoy your run with the dogs.

AFM:  Unexpectedly beautiful day today - 34 and sunny - so I did my nine mile run from home to Subway where my husband met me and shared lunch.  It was a faster run than usual, since I'm trying to get used to some faster paces before my HM next week.  I had the thought that doing a lot of MP runs doesn't help much when you're racing a half.  It was harder on the hamstring, but overall felt good.

Ginny, it depends.  It's usually very humid in the mornings, but too hot for the fog to form, but before the really hot and humid weather arrives, it happens often.  This morning it was 67F and 67 dewpoint, making humidity at 100% so there was fog for 4 hours.  Usually, it's 80F with 75 dewpoint, too hot for the fog to happen.
