Happy Holly Day, Tuesday Penguins!! (Read 9 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Ok, so it's also kind of a bad pun, but it's Holly Day!!  We have a holly bush/tree just outside one of our downstairs windows.  Maggie camps out at the windowsill and watches the birds flit around in the tree.  Cat TV, I guess.

I had a service engineer out yesterday to fix one of my instruments.  She'd had the necessary part shipped to my lab.  So yesterday she opened the box, pulled out the box containing the part, broke the QA seal, and the box was completely empty.

DH said it wasn't a problem with quality control, it was a problem with quantity control, and that was probably a whole nother division.

      So we'll try again today.

Other than that, not much going on at work.  Winter break starts Thursday (at which point the Penguin thread will probably cease for the year, unless one of y'all starts it), so campus is pretty dead.  Looking forward to my vacation!!  We start back January 3rd.

Oh, and another funny:  Dusty woke up last night and came over to me to get his head scratched.  As I was trying to stay awake and pet him, I realized DH was awake too.  I'd looked at my watch and it was 5:08, our alarm goes off at 5:30, so I told DH that since he and Dusty were both awake, and I wasn't, they might as well go on downstairs.

Turns out it was about 3:15 when I kicked them out of the bedroom.  I must've dreamed looking at my watch.

Morning!  I spent all day in court yesterday and got home after 7pm, so I just lifted and called it a night.  I have Pilates and 6 with 6 X 100m tonight.

HopesMom, like the song says, have holly jolly Christmas, I guess!  Enjoy your break!  Haha, poor husband.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

          Barking Mad To Run

Run/walk around UTSA campus this morning. Started at 6 a.m. Yes, it was raining. Yes, it was VERY humid, and the temp was 61 degrees Even so, a delightful outing. All the students finished their finals last week so the campus is pretty much empty except for the staff. I pretty much had the whole campus to myself, felt like I had my own private reserve, lol, when I was out there. Only saw a few cars and a couple of the campus police guys on patrol. I had planned on 3, but felt so darn good, even with the rain, that I ended up with 4.2 miles. Nice.

HopesMom - enjoy your Christmas break. Are you travelling at all?

Scotty - enjoy your empty campus. Do you get off between Christmas and New Years? When I worked at USF, that was one thing I really enjoyed.

D - Enjoy your 6 plus strides tonight. If I'm feeling good, I love doing strides.

I'm heading out with the Beer Runners this evening for a Christmas Light Run. Actually I think our neighborhood is as nice or nicer as anything in town, but it will be fun to join the group. Running at night is always more fun with Christmas lights.  With marathon training ramping up, I doubt I'll be able to do a lot more short Tuesday runs. Today was supposed to be 8, but I'll switch that to tomorrow.
