Friday penguins really know where their towel is at! (Read 27 times)

Zelanie

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

Morning, slackers! Smile  I am planning to run 7 easy after work.

Zoe is doing well today, although we are NOT happy with our vet visit.  Both DH and I went separately yesterday (I dropped off, he picked up), and both thought they were so unprofessional and disorganized that we don't want to go back there.  We do have our regular vet in town, and the specialist vet in Portland, so we have better options.

Ginny- How long the shots last is the big question.  The thought is that if you start with a series of 3, about a month apart, then maybe you can go 6 months or a year, maybe longer, without needing another.  But if they only last a month or so, then we'll have to go with the surgery.

        Hi Pens...

DW and will get in 4 or 5 easy miles later tonight and 11 tomorrow. Zion will be nice. Four day weekends are tough but somebody has to do it!

What a shame that you started feeling "sick" right when you have this trip planned! Wink

Morning!  Eight days since the surgery (surgery was Friday of last week but counting it, it's 8 days tonight).  I am allowed to drive so I started the day by taking dad to the airport.  We'll miss him, although I think the cats are partying.

Morning, D!  Glad that recovery seems to be going smoothly for you and hope that you got to enjoy some of the time with your dad.  What was the issue that the cats had with him?  Was he just sitting in their spot?

              Singer who runs a smidge

Hello, hoopy froods!! It is 68 degrees out there, and I am LOVING it!! Of course it's also crazy windy and we're supposed to get thunderstorms this morning. But if it clears off this afternoon I'll hie meself hither for another walk, if I can reach an understanding with my knee. Stupid thing. I did catch a rock on my windshield this morning and chipped it, dangit! The windshield I replaced right after Christmas because of a rock-induced crack. I think this one is reparable, though.

Zelanie -- sorry the vet was annoying!!

Jack -- thanks for taking the hit for the team!! (I'm sticking my tongue out at you!)

                Docket -- woo-hoo for driving!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                Dad on the run.

                  Hey Penguin family!

3 miles after work and another 3 with the running group lastnight. Rojo was pretty good, enjoyed me a Avondale Spring Street Saison Ale and a steak burrito.

Docket - Glad you can drive now! I'm sure all this downtime is making you go stir crazy.

                  Barking Mad To Run

JJ, good news yesterday about your sister! Early detection is key!  That is what saved my butt!  Mine was caught so early I actually had an easier time of it than lots of cancer folks did. In my case, at the time mine was discovered, the treatment was harder on me than the cancer.  I hope your sister's treatments go well!

Glad you finally have your appointment, Oski!  I bet you are looking forward to yours!  Unlike me, who is not looking forward to mine...colonoscopy on March 6...and PREP day on March 5.....yuk.  The doc said I could mix that stuff I have to drink with clear crystal light to make it taste better...damn...why can't it be beer I can mix it with?

Nice the doggie is working out for you, Hobbit!

Nice run for you yesterday, Kristin! Running by the water sounds nice.

Good luck with the 7 today, Zelanie. Sorry about the poor vet service!

Are you at Zion now, Jack?  Enjoy!

Glad you are feeling somewhat better now, Damaris, and can drive.  Are you allowed to go back to work yet?  You're ever an attorney, so with that you are still "Docket"...you just have to build back up to the rocket part.  Nice n easy!

Yay for 68 degrees, HsM!  Boo for windy, rainy weather.  Better warm rain than cold rain though!

Steak and ale, nice way to finish a run, Jimmy!

AFM:  Went to a local park yesterday. Had planned on 3 easy miles but the weather was so nice - 81 degrees - I carried on.  Did a mix of off-road trails and park paved trails.  Met this huge and very cool Great Dane.  He was with 3 guys on bikes and would run alongside of them as they cycled. The dang dog was just about as tall as the bikes, lol.  I didn't think about it then, but later I regretted not asking one of the guys to take a photo of me with the dog and e-mail it to me.  Anyway, I ended up with 4.2 miles total.  As I was finishing up I caught a root and ended up slip-sliding down a small hill, tweaking my inner thigh - where the hip connects to the groin -  just a bit.   Not really painful, but enough to bug me that I took one of my muscle relaxers last night.  That stuff really makes you loop, so glad I am off work today and didn't have to drive!  Ended up sleeping in until 9 a.m.!    Today is a rest day and tomorrow I have a 5K in Bastrop, a very scenic little town by a river.  It's about an hour's drive from San Antonio, so I'll be up early tomorrow.

Z - I would definitely drop the vet.  You might send a note as well, explaining that the lack of professionalism has driven off clients.  Unless, of course, you might end up there again because they are convenient to your home or office.  Enjoy your evening run.

Jack - do you drive to Zion, or fly to Vegas and drive from there?  Have a great weekend.

Damaris - freedom is -- being able to leave the house again!

HM - that's warm!  I hope the wind and rain dies down so you can get outside later.

Jimmy - sounds like you had a fun evening with the runners.  Good beer?

Scotty - Sounds like you had a good run yesterday too.  Have fun at your race tomorrow.  I know, you usually do, and if you don't, you're very discrete about it.  I hope your twinged leg feels better today.

AFM:  dreary drizzly day, but it is helping to melt the snow around the edges.  I actually saw a couple of patches of grass on our walk this morning.  Rest day or stationary bike if I get antsy later.

                      Dad on the run.

Ginny - Yes it was very good. I really liked the fact that most of the stuff they had on tap were all local brewers. I'ma big fan of craft beer and supporting the craft. I just wish Alabama would hurry up and jump on the bandwagon and lift some more of our extremely stupid beer laws.

Oh, I have been leaving the house but today is the first time I have done it alone.

Ginny: we drive. It's about six hours so it's not too bad.

                            Scotty: halfway there!

The only reason I would drive for six hours is if they evacuate Florida and that will not bring me outside of Florida.  I lose my patience an hour South or Orlando.
