Monday Penguins Deserve a Day Off! (Read 22 times)

Zelanie

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

But instead I am being a responsible adult and heading in to work this morning.

For your viewing enjoyment, here is a video my husband took of me yesterday, maybe around miles 16-17 somewhere?  That big farm sprinkler you see in the background was all over the road right before I got there.  You can hear me calling the farmer an "asshole".   The aid station I'm heading towards had bubbles.

      Team TJ

        Love it, Zel!

Park miles for me after work today.

Running for TJ because he can't.

        Return To Racing

Love the video RR, Zel.  Great spectator support.  Lucky DH could spot you in the crowd.

SRD for me, but not from work.

          Have a great week !!!

          Jill.

          Penguin Power!

Took a rest day yesterday.  I'll probably run 3 or 4 easy later.  DH is home from work today - he's still not 100% as far as digestion and what not goes.  I'll call his PCP today and try to make an appointment to get the stitches out of his face and figure out next steps as far as whether he should see any specialists.  He's generally in perfect health (he doesn't even really get sick with the cold or the flu or whatever) so we'll see what the doctor says.

            Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

            Singer who runs a smidge

Howdy Penguins!!  Wow, I read the weekend thread, and much craziness!!  Glad to hear sapf's DH is ok, sorry to hear about Mitch's FIL's decline.  Also sorry about Jack's knee problems, but awesome race stories from everyone!!  I babied my knee, but it's still a bit twingy.  I dropped the single-leg squats from my PT exercises, since we weren't quite sure I was ready for them anyway, hoping that helps.  I'll go for a walk if it isn't bugging me today.  I'm still over-pollinated.

Zelanie -- yeah, that whole responsible adult thing.  Blah.  Smile

Robert -- enjoy your park miles!!

Jerryb -- have a good SRD!!

sapf -- Have a good 3 or 4 easy, and hoping for continued good news for DH!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

              Jack K.

                Hi Pens.

                Happy Monday to y'all.

Zel: Nice video! The noise from the crowd was deafening!

                Robert: enjoy your park miles.

Jerry: Good job on the HM. I hope the post-race beer was good.

sapf: Glad to hear DH is better. I hope everything checks out ok for him.

                HsM: Hi.

As for me, no running and I am officially on the IR. I ran four miles with wife yesterday and my knee just got progressively worse with each mile. I have the doctor referral in my hand and I will be calling today. Annoying, to say the least, especially since wife is already talking about another marathon.

                See ya.

Morning.  I am taking my RD.  Still congested and my asthma is being a bitch.

                  Z, congrats!  Looking good!

Hope, hope you get to do that walk!

                    Good morning Penguins!

                    Zel I love the video!

Jack, super-sad that it's bad enough for you to go on IR.

Robert, I hope you get some nice miles in.

Hope, I hope you get a run in. (MTA whoops, meant WALK!)

                    Jerry, enjoy the rest.

Jill, I hope hubby is 100% very soon.

Damaris, smart to take a rest.

I didn't get a run in this morning because too many contractor appointments...and now the first one is late, grrr....I might run later if I can work it in, or I might go to yoga.  I'm a little sad because today is my last day of after-school program with the 4th-6th graders; I get one more day with the younger kids.

We've been lucky, they've mostly been reliable so far! But right now the timing is very tight... if one guy doesn't do his part, it puts off everyone else!  Did I mention I'm having a big graduation party Wednesday night?  We're having a taco party catered in the back yard, but it would have been nice to have a countertop and sink in the kitchen. I see that possibility slipping away.

Brilliant - I remember a carpet installer who was supposed to be there at 4:00 who actually arrived at 7:00.  It was 10 pm before they left.  Contractors can be very irritating that way.

Z - how many ended up running your marathon?  Our local races are a lot like that - farm country with only a few people sitting on their porches to wave at the runners.  The water tables try to make up for the lack of crowd support.

Robert - enjoy your run in the park.

Jerry - enjoy your rest day.

sapf - it's a good idea to get DH to his doctor, just in case.  I don't know how well-versed most MDs are in heat exhaustion though.

HopesMom - I hope you get a walk in later.

Jack - I hope an orthopedist can help without having to do surgery.  Sometimes torn meniscuses will resolve themselves, sometimes they won't.  And if it's runners knee, you can get exercises that should help.

Damaris - sounds like you really need a rest day.  Too bad you can't sleep in and let your congestion get better.

AFM:  rest day, I think.  I'd like to go for a walk in the woods, but may settle for cleaning the house.  We've still got thunderstorms predicted.

                          Zelanie

                            Robert- Morning!

Saph- Glad to hear things are mostly well.

                            D- Boo to asthma!

Brilliant- Not having a kitchen still means having a valid excuse for not having everything just so at the party, right?

Jack- Bummer. Maybe there will be a cancelation and you can get in early.

Ginny- I think there were 30 finishers this year. I'm still not listed, hoping they get thay fixed today. But who knows if there were others affected as well. Most of the stations were friendly. The people at the HM turnaround were the best. One had cups out but no people. Another had grumpy high schoolers who were complaining about having to be there and who packed up early. But most were great.

Ginny, I took a day off running last week and it didn't improve (it actually got worse), so not sure if today's day off will work at all.  Asthma does not get worse by resting.  I just feel very tired when I run through it and some days I am exhausted.  We'll see!  Thanks!

Rest day for me as we recoup a little from last night. Left the ER at 4:00 am,  then woke up around 9:30. Sitting here in the ICU waiting for them to move FIL to regular room. I'm actually pretty pissed off at the way all this went down, here's a little summary so far. Too many doctors medicating him for different things and not knowing what the other is doing. He's not going to die, at least not right now!  Aft

er I hear more from the doctors and look some things up at Dr Google ' s library, I'll post more.
