Fear is a Liar
The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails!
What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)
I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!
Good Morning Penguins!
Ahh, I like sleeping in on Saturday! That 80% chance of rain yesterday turned into 100% all day. So I ran 7.3 miles in a soaking rain after work. One thing - a lot of times drivers don't expect seeing a runner when it is dry out, when it is raining even less.
Smaller By The Day
Gustav - Absolutely true! Be safe out there. Way to kick ass in the rain though.
AFM - I'm just waiting for the coffee to do it's thing. Then, I'm going to go cap off this 50 mile week with a 13 mile run. Yay for base building phase. Because I don't see any clouds, I'm actually going to take water with me. That's not exactly normal for me. It's actually out of character completely.

I was hoping to hit the bottom end of my tempo run paces last night. I hit the fast end instead. Great 5.6 mile run last night w/ 3.1 at tempo speed. I hit speeds that I haven't been able to run since April.
Personal Bests:
800M - 2:38 (5/28/13) | 1 Mile -5:54 (5/28/13) | 3K - 11:55 (12/29/12) | 2M - 13:00 (12/1/12) | 5K - 20:00 (4/12/13) | 13.1M - 1:37:24 (2/3/13)

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Hi Pens.
Gus: good stuff. I would have stayed in.
awood: you have been doing a lot of miles! do you have a goal for your marathon or is it too soon?
Dan: feels great, doesn't it?
I am going out for 10 and then we have DD's swim meet today and tomorrow. Have a good day.
Going for run when DW returns from Curves. Distance TBD. Should be nice, except the bikers will be racing by.
Good morning! Gonna head out to run 5 today. Looking forward to it! I may take the dogs, depending on the temperature when I go.
Gustav- Good job getting out there in the rain! And DW is right, you do need a shower after that! But maybe she'll bring you a cookie.
Awood- Always nice when you can hit your weekly mileage target by Saturday! Enjoy the run!
Jerry- Good morning! Watch out for the bikers. Or you could try to run alongside them, Tour de France style.
Dan- Great news on the tempo!
Jack- Have a good run, and good luck to DD in the meet!
Mmmmm. Just made my eggs in this chipolte lime finishing butter my wife bought - very good.
Zelanie - it's so cool that your mileage is going up!
One Half So Far
Was within 10 minutes of the world best for the marathon yesterday morning.
...
on my bike.
26.5 is a long ride at 3:30 in the morning on a cruiser bike, but it is the tradition now on the last day of school that people either walk, run or ride to work. 4 people ran the whole 26. Another one ran 13. A team of kids relayed the 26. 8 of us rode the 26 (although only one, me, did it on a cruiser bike. It's what I have, and I rode the last 3 miles with a broken spoke. The wheel locked against the frame as soon as I stopped.) A bunch of other folks walked 5 km in the morning. All in all, hopefully we were good role models.
Anyhoo. I start with a running group tomorrow, and we're doing 7, so either RD or maybe a couple-3 miles easy. Will be strange to run WITH people.
Gustav: TFSTT. Make sure you wear your reflective gear in the rain next time We know that in Oregon, where rain is a given and so is inattentive driving.
Awood: You could take beer instead? Enjoy the 13!
Jerry: Was happy to see the Pens put to sleep last night. Not a big Kings fan either. Boston-Chicago would be an epic series.
Dan: Great!
Damaris: How you are capable of running in FL weather is beyond me.
Jack: Enjoy the meet You on 80-day weekend yet?
Have a good day, amigos!

6/1: Moonlight 5M, Springfield 43:10

ACK. Zel snuck in on me.
Hooray 5! Temperature will be hot. Makes me look forward to sitting on an artifical turf field at 2 PM today. In a black graduation robe. Maybe I should sneak in a margarita.
Gustav- Thanks!
Jeff- Is it 26 miles to work for everyone? Maybe I'm too detail oriented, but I'm confused. In any case, nice job getting the ride in on a cruiser! And have a great 60-day weekend!
Also, I offer you up for the weekend 2 funnies.
This for dog people.
This for cat people.
Enjoy
Zel: A bunch of folks came up to Springfield for the ride. We all left as a group.
