Oh, no, Scotty!  I'm sorry to hear that.  She survived the worst part (overdose), then she died of another condition?  Very sad.

Sarah, the Cowtown is in Fort Worth, as I recall, correct?  You do realize there are some hills along that course, right? If I remember correctly, anyway.  So be prepared for them.   I am sure you will do just fine.

Do you recall my wife's niece, who went into the hospital a few weeks ago and was in ICU, etc?  Well, turned out the reason she had all this going on was that she was using cocaine and she overdosed and no one found her for several hours and her body started shutting down, etc.  She did get stabilized, then got back to normal, and finally was well enough to be released from the hospital, with a referral to a drug rehab program. This morning, Gail got a call that her niece had died from an additional complication that she waited too long to get checked, she got peritonitis but did not go in right away.  By the time she did, it was too late.  Gail was pretty close to her, I hardly knew her at all.  She was only in her late 20s;  a very sad way for a young life to end.

Scotty - Yes, the Cowtown is in Fort Worth (where else?).   I've heard about the "hills" on that course, and to be honest, I'm already afraid of them.    Someone said that they changed the course about 2 years ago and that it's "not as bad" as it was before in terms of hills, but you know, any hill here in North Texas is pretty much a mountain from our perspective.....    ;-)

I am so sorry about Gail's niece!   That's just awful!!   May she find peace in the hereafter, and may all of her families' fond memories of her bring them solace in this difficult time!!

Tough conditions but I got it done.  "R" pace workout:

                  4 X 200's w/200 recoveries

                  2 X 400's w/400 recoveries

                  1 X 800 w/800 recovery

                  2 X 400's w/400 recoveries

                  4 X 200's w/200 recoveries

Normally I run to the track, do the entire workout, then run home without stopping.  Today however, I walked a couple of steps after the first set of 200's were complete, after the 800, and after the third 400.

I do not really know what to say about that, except that I obviously got my ass kicked.  It was just a tough workout, but I did my best.

All told I averaged a 6:42 pace for the 2.5 miles at rep pace, and ran a total of 9.2 miles with warmup, recoveries, and cool down.

Despite the difficulty, I am satisfied with my effort, and grateful that I was able to get this thing done.  So today was a very good day!

Scotty, I'm very sorry to hear about your wife's neice. That's terribly sad, especially with so many years of life ahead of her.

scottydawg- I'm so sorry to hear this about your wife's niece. What a sad ending to a short life. I remember when you had posted it before but forgot to follow up and see how things were going. My wife is an ICU nurse and unfortunately this kind of thing is way more common than anyone would guess. She continually sees young folks in their 20s who, through their own choices, have hard-lived their lives to be more like 60+ year olds. (BTW, as I'm sure you know ...  peritonitis is not a pleasant end.) Sorry for your loss and I do hope some good will shine through it all.

                        Train smart ... race smarter.

Sorry about the picture, guys.  That's what happens when you try to post a picture of coffee before you have your coffee. Sad

Just over 3 in just over 30.  9:46 average pace (which is seemingly becoming my new "comfortable pace") with a really nasty headwind for the last mile.  12 mph with gusts up to 25.  Freakin' brutal!  I don't remember the last time I was so happy to be done with a run.

Scotty, I'm so sorry about Gail's niece.  I know drug addiction can be hard on both the user and their family.  And it's always so tragic to lose someone, especially at such a young age.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

                          Do you even run?

                          Just B.S.

Scotty, so so very sorry to hear the sad news about Gail's niece.

Swam this morning at 7:30,  1,400 yards.

Heading out for 10 miles in a few minutes.

It is a glorious 37F and sunny! Gotta take advantage of these warm days when I can.

                            More snow/rain/hail coming tomorrow.

                            It's been a fun winter.Roll eyes

Well I bombed my exam by a measly 3 questions. Ugh. Went into the exam with a 94 average. It was freaking hard! I'm hoping that the professor scales it. I couldn't have been the only one who didn't do so well. The way I look at it, is that I got 38 questions right out of 50. I never was a good test taker, I'm really good at case studies and writing papers.

Just back from 6 rolling hills. I was very anxious at the start of my run after my exam and settled into a comfortable 9:00 min. pace around mile 4. 9:13 pace. I've decided to run most if not all of my runs outside this month since my race is a hilly course. The hills in my neighborhood will do me well. Off to Barnes and Noble to get a coffee and wind down.

Scotty- I've seen a lot of this as well in my years as a nurse. We get a lot of heroin addicts and drug and alcohol overdoses on the unit I work on. Its really sad and I'm sorry about your wife's niece.

                              Running is my mental-Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Shirfan (from yesterday) - The elimination of the penny has been pretty much a non-event for me, except I did have one coffee shop ask for 2.65 for a 2.65 bill when I had exact change. First of all, they should obviously round down, and secondly, my understanding is that you don't round when pennies are available.

LRB - I don't trust any products for human consumption with "balls" in the name. Nice workout!

Basya - Forced socializing? Lol, I think I know what you mean.

Scotty - I'm very sorry for you and your family.

I just registered for the Chicago Marathon. Gotta get training now!  I'll try for 10-11 miles tonight, but I'll take what I can get!
