26 Acts of Kindness (Read 401 times)

Give of your time, rather than your wallet. That seems to help the best.

I love this entire idea. I look forward to participating. It doesn't have to be costly or big. There are so many things I can think of doing. The tragedy that occurred has really put me in a funk and maybe this will help a bit.

The bigger challenge might be to do something for someone, but don't tell ANYONE of your plans to do so (not what, when, where, how, etc.)..you can't tell a soul.  Harder to do than one might think.

But talking about it and reading about what others have done is part of the fun.

Sure we should always be appreciative, and we should always be nice to others, and we should always do random nice things for other people, and we can always do more, but why is making a conscious effort to do a litle more in light of recent events being met with such cynicism 'round here?

DW and I donate our time, donate to charities, and donate when tragedies strike, but I think this is doing something at more of a micro level.

But talking about it and reading about what others have done is part of the fun.   To an extent, I agree.

conscious effort to do a litle more in light of recent events being met with such cynicism 'round here? You call it cynicism, I call it offering up other ways to give back to people, regardless of 6 months ago, now, or 6 months from now.

Cynicism is an attitude or state of mind characterized by a general distrust of others' apparent motives or ambitions, or a general lack of faith or hope in the human race or in individuals with desires, hopes, opinions, or personal tastes that a cynic perceives as unrealistic or inappropriate, therefore deserving of ridicule or admonishment.

Given this definition, I don't see where any comments thus far have met this criteria.

There's a lot of that cynicism on Twitter. Bums me out. It's a good opportunity to think about more things you can do.

Have you been able to run at all?

Hey there. I haven't  been on here much lately with the end of the semester, Christmas shopping, etc. I have. Thanks. I've run 6 times now. My longest run is up to 3.6 miles now. I've been taking it slow. 4 days a week of running. Feels great to be back out there. Smile

Twitter and facebook (and to some extent message boards) suck. "look at the cool thing I did". Just go do. Or donate. it is the act, not the recognition. (eh who am I kidding. it is whatever you choose it to be)

^ This, but not FB. I have many friends who I met over at RWOL that I communicate with on FB and without FB I'd really miss them. There are so many things to do to recognize the lives that were lost. It is endless.

That's a fine point, but social media is a great way to spread the word about something. A lot of people are doing this 26 acts of kindness because they read about it. Some people need to be pushed, but still do great things.

God no. That's all that I need. Shocked That would truly suck. I just feel bad for the whole situation. I can't even turn on the TV or open up my computer without seeing it. Its saddened a lot of us.

"Imagine if all of us committed to 20 mitvahs/acts of kindness to honor each child lost in Newtown. I'm in. "

and it's taking off like wildfire.  Reports are out there of people paying for other people's orders in drive throughs, giving out random gift cards to strangers etc etc.

Follow the tweets and you can see what people are doing.  It's really amazing!

Actually, I thought a lot of people would say what they did. They aren't, they are just saying they are in to do the acts and spreading the word. Which is pretty cool. That or they are trying to get me to click porn linkies. Gotta love twitter.

I have already been in the process of doing random acts of Christmas kindness with the boys.  It's an important lesson to teach the kiddos, I think.  We do one a day, at least.  Today, we left notes/candy canes and taped $ to a bunch of vending machines.  I'll definitely do some acts of kindness in honor of the kiddos.

AFAICS...if yall feel the need to share some kindness. I am open arms for tasty cupcakes, gift certificates to Runners Warehouse, or a bottle or two of swill.

In advance, I appreciate your gratitude.
