SaturDAILIES: I'm not really feeling this... (Read 36 times)

LRB

It was 23 degrees two hours ago and now it's "warmed up" to 28. The wind chill is currently 20 though so I'd rather pour cereal into a bowl of cold black coffee and eat it than go out in that crap. But hey, at least the sun is shining. $+%=÷ and @×÷+' and *%:&"$@

      Good morning!

LRB, middle TN weather sucks balls this morning, too.  Low 30s, with windchills in the low 20s.  That North wind can eat a bag of dicks.

At least the rain was through (for the time being) by the time I started.  We may still get flurries and/or rain showers throughout the day.

Anyway, I ran 11.5 uncomfortable miles.  It must have made me stronger, because it did not kill me.  That's about the only positive spin I can think of right now.  I have been home for an hour, and had a shower and a gallon of coffee - I'm still not warm.

      Have a great day!

18* here. I'm not running until the afternoon

Not cold here, but rain & 20mph wind, so not gonna be a lot of fun. LR today, since I'm traveling tomorrow.

6 miles with 6 x 1 min on/off. Felt like I was flying! Perfect running weather here. Then sat through a tball game where I think I got sunburned at 8am. Probably almost 80 today...sorry Northerners.

I can't even quite comprehend this, as it was a feels like of 2*F this morning (real temp of 8 or 10? it was awful). I ran inside on the TM, my "long run" of 9 miles. I'm binge watching a new show--Suits.

I'm jealous. Where is spring? I know I have it easy right now compared to some of you all but this still sucks. The wind hasn't let up in months.

I think the lack of sleep is really getting to me.  Another night of barely any sleep with the little guy teething...woke up this am feeling like I drank a case of beer. Not fun. Oh well...suck it up buttercup.

Went over to the park around 7:15 for my last tempo before next weekend. The wind sucked pretty bad and it was chilly. I realized before I left the house that I was supposed to do a 10/5 (not 4) tempo.

Warmed up with 3mi 8:35, 26, 15 (starting to feel better as these felt effortless)

                        5mi @ HMish 6:39, 34, 26, 30, 27

                        2 down 7:43, 8:00

I didn't push it much with the tempo portion and these splits didn't feel bad at all. Legs were tired but aerobically fairly easy. First mile or 2 is always tough until the HR settles down and you get in the groove. I have no clue what is going to happen this race. lol. Should be interesting.

HalfCrazy- Your racing the April fools race right? Have you raced this one before? We will have 4 RA runners there...cool. Fred, You, my training partner Vibe from the frequent racer forum, and myself.

'Morning!  Man, I hammered my 6.55 mile race this morning.  Recap alert:

This is a tough course.  Two loops...basically the first half of each loop is up, and the second half is down.  500' total elevation gain.  I wanted to run under 43:16, since that was my race time when I ran it in 2016 fresh off my HM PR when I think I was at my peak running fitness. Today I ran 42:13.  6:27 avg pace.  I'd have been happy to run one second faster, but I did not expect to run 63 seconds faster.  In a race of this distance, that is a lot of time.  I also wanted to place in my AG to win a beanie and a cookie.  I knew two guys who'd be tough competition.  I ran with one of them side by side for the last 5.5 miles of the race.  We were alone...nobody close to us in either direction, so it was nice to have him there keeping me locked in and hammering away.  This guy beats me every time we race.  Today was no different, as he had a final kick I could not match and hammered it home for the AG win, but I have basically erased the large gap that used to exist between us.  It was really fun though racing him, and he was very friendly and cordial after the race.

Anyway, I finished OA 6/379 and AG 2/23.  In the first 6.2 miles of the race, I ran a 20 second 10K PR (40:13).  On a tough course.  Ha!  But, PR only counts if it is the official race time.

Good day today.  I beat my goal by a lot and got my beanie and cookie.  I am cognizant of the fact that my running has never been better. I am seriously soaking in every fast race I manage to run and I appreciate every one of them.

                          Half Crazy K 2.0

Jay, this will be my third time doing the April Fools half. The first time I did it was because I got a free hotel offer that actually included weekends, so it just seemed like a good idea. Plus the course elevation profile is favorable to a PR. Absolutely no change unless you count the ramp on & off the boardwalk. Now, about the weather. The first year, 2015, it was perfect. Maybe a bit on the warm side for a race, but hardly any wind and 50s. 2016 was awful. There was a gale and freeze warning. There was a brutal crosswind on the boardwalk section, I wound up tucking up next to the buildings for some relief. The road section near the turnaround in Longport was the worst. I felt like I was standing still going into the wind, then after the turn almost got pushed down from a gust. So every time I've run in the wind, I keep telling myself it is more than likely I'll have to deal with it in AC.

The race is a good size--a little crowded in the early part for mid packers (you shouldn't have a problem at all) and can get a little tight in some spots on the road. The start at Resorts is ideal. There are TONS of bathrooms. Most people use the ones closest to the start, but if you walk into the casino a little further, no waiting.

The only complaint I have is the race started a few minutes late each time I did it. That was really not fun on the windy day.

Are you coming in Sunday just to race? We're making a long weekend of it.

My wife's car was in the shop and ready to be picked up. I figured I'd run there in a slight drizzle. When I got to Greenlake, it wasn't coming down too badly so I moved to go around the lake. Huge mistake. After I committed it started to pour. There were foot deep puddles everywhere and I couldn't see. I did the best I could under the conditions, not doing my extra little segments. 6.1 @ 8:51 with really heavy clothes.

However my goal was 8-9 so I then went to the gym. My running shoes needed to dry out so I did about 2.7 miles on the elliptical and then did 10 minutes on the bike so all in all, I feel OK about it.

Are you coming in Sunday just to race? We're making a long weekend of it.

HalfCrazy- Awesome that this will be your 3rd time racing this event. I've read some RRs of past races and it definitely sounds like the wind can be a big factor. With the way this spring is going, I'm kind of mentally preparing myself for some terrible weather. I ran the Asbury Park HM  last Spring but it doesn't work well with a race series my buddy does so we will be at this one instead. Just driving down for the day...we're about 1:45 or so away. Not terrible but will have to get up early to get down there, pick up bibs, etc. It'll be a fun day.

Baboon- Great job! Sounds like a tough course and you nailed it.
