Penguin Power!

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

    Penguin Power!

Morning Pens!  Today will be lots of errands and some spring cleaning for me.  My public school students are on break this week, so I have a lighter work load than normal.  Anyway, I'll try to do some number of miles once I get all of my errands and cleaning done - or I may run with my language exchange partner tonight.  She just started couch to 5k at my recommendation :-)

      on my way to badass

        Good morning Pens!

Thanks for starting us off Jill.

Spring break is this week, so entertaining the boy is at the top of my list.  I'm just happy that I don't have to use a crowbar to get him out of bed for a change.

        Some mileage for me today.

Still waiting for the perfect race picture. 5K PR-33:52 , 10K PR 1:11:16, First HM 2:42:28

Not sure if allergies or cold, but the damn dust and cement is making my lungs and nose crazy.  7 miles tonight.

          Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  For a change, I think it's a normal day for me.  Dusty is supposed to get his bandages off today, but he got impatient and pulled one off this morning himself.  I don't think it did any damage, but it's definitely harder to keep him from licking the stitches than it was the bandages!

Jill -- I try to avoid spring cleaning.  Which explains my house ....  Enjoy your miles!!

Stone -- have fun with spring break!!

Docket -- sorry about your crazy lungs and nose!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Jill - It seems really late for spring break.  Do the schools run until mid-June?  Have a productive day. I hope your friend does well with c25k.

Stonefence - does your son run at all?  Maybe you could go do a run together?

D- I hope the lungs and nose calm down so you can run.

HopesMom -  good luck getting Dusty to stop licking. Is he still wearing the cone?

AFM:  It's supposed to get up into the 80's today, so I'll only probably do only a few miles this afternoon. I'm not ready for summer heat yet.

              Singer who runs a smidge

He wasn't in the cone for several days, because it stressed him out so much and he wasn't licking his feet anyway.  But with the bandages off, those stitches are RIGHT THERE and need licking, apparently.  So DH put him back in the cone this morning, and he was completely miserable.  We have a non-cone collar that's easier on him -- he can see where he's going and doesn't object so much.  If that's enough of a psychological barrier to feet-licking, we'll go with that.  He can physically reach them, but he might not try to.  We'll see.

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Get better, Dusty!  Is the new cone thing an air donut? Mia had one of those, but she managed to pop it.

Just saw the sports doc. I have another week or so in the air cast, and I'll continue PT. He wants me to build my mileage slowly, so maybe only 20 this week. Boo! But he is probably right.

                  Singer who runs a smidge

Aaaand, DH just wrecked his car.  He's fine, but the car is out of commission, at least for a little while.  He turned left from a stop and somehow didn't see the dump truck.  He thinks the car is fixable, but it has 186k miles on it, so we'll have to talk to see if we want to bother fixing it.  It might be time to give him my car (101k) and for me to get a "new" one.  So now I'm researching used Priuses.

                        Barking Mad To Run

Well, after my Parade run on Saturday night, I am now going to behave myself per my doc's instructions and take off a few weeks to let my adductor and hamstring completely heal.  Will do some walking, x-training, etc, and then by June will hopefully be able to run normally again.  Well, what's normal for me, lol.

A friend of mine was a parade spectator and caught me running down the street.   Well, what I call running for me, lol.

Hmmm...maybe Damaris should get one of those cones to surround her head with and then all that dust and stuff can't get into her nose and mouth while she's out running.

I think Damaris should run in full hazmat gear!!
