Week 22 Penguins have zero dirty dishes! (05/17-05/23) (Read 8 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Today is National No Dirty Dishes Day.  Some days we're good in that regard, others not.  Mostly because DH does the dishes, and some days he's busy doing other stuff.  I was told early on in our marriage that I load the dishwasher incorrectly.  I asked DH if he would prefer that I not load it, and he said yes, so woo-hoo for me!!

Docket, so sorry to hear about your grandmother!!  And I'm also sorry you had to find out about it via FB.

I pretty much insisted DH take Dusty to the vet, though I don't know if that'll be today or not.  He's been drinking more water, getting up at night, losing a little weight, and his left eye was sort of sunken this morning.  I suspect he may have developed diabetes, hoping there's nothing worse going on.  He's something like 10 years old, which is pretty good for a dog his size ... anyway.  I'm just hoping it's something we can either fix or manage.

We're supposed to get the final piece of our broadband installation on Thursday.  Fingers crossed!!  And my laptop booted today, which I was not expecting.  I figured it was pretty much finished, but it keeps limping along.

Jim and I have an agreement that I cook, he does dishes. We don't have an agreement as to when he does dishes. Sometimes it takes 2-3 days before he gets around to it. So I end up doing dishes half the time because I either need the pots and pans or just can't stand the mess. Other times I just ignore it because it is his job after all. ATM, we have no dirty dishes, but I know that won't last long.

HM - I hope you get a new laptop soon. I hope there isn't anything serious wrong with Dusty.

RD for me. I'd like to do some cross-training, either a walk or some time on the stationary bike, but lately it seems that there is always something that comes up to prevent that, or I decide that digging the garden, cleaning the house, or mowing the lawn has priority.

Afternoon! Swamped this morning and now just waiting to hear back to file one thing that is due today. I have 7 miles tonight.

HopesMom, thank you. awww, poor Dusty. Hoping he is OK.

Ginny, oh, I would be leaving the dishes forever if hubby wouldn't wash them, lol. I cook, he washes. If he does not wash (and he is very good and puts them on the washer every night) I don't cook.

I've got a few things that need to get done today, but I'm seriously lacking in motivation.  Only one of them actually has to get done today, though, which is probably why I'm so lacking.

Dusty's appointment is tomorrow morning, so we'll see how that goes.

Also, we get the final part of our broadband installation on Thursday.

I got a nice picture of a squirrel stuffing himself off our bird feeder.  Maybe when I have faster internet I can share more pics!  We've yet to see a single hummingbird, though.  It's all windy and grey today, I think it's supposed to rain most of today and tomorrow.  Also chilly, highs in the low 60's.  What month is this again??

Morning! I ran 6 last night and that was a struggle. I can't wait until my allergy test tomorrow so I can chug Zyrtec, lol. I have the 7 and weights, likely on the TM because I can't breathe well today.

HopesMom, the birds I've been seeing here in IN are gorgeous. Over there there is no life coming and going, just the same weather so same critters around all year long. It's nice to see bunnies and birds, etc.

Ok, so Dusty has diabetes, which we can manage, at least for a while.  Since the other probable cause was kidney failure, I'm pretty happy.  The guy just finished with our broadband install, which amazed me, since when he came this morning something wasn't working.  So he called the other folks, who came out and fixed whatever wasn't working, and then he came back and did the install.  I figured it was going to take another few weeks to get everything unsnarled.

                So that's all good.

Also, I have discovered that I am unable to make falafel.  But somehow I managed to produce a really good hummus.  So now I don't know if I should add some flour and retry frying it (it fell apart the first try), or just eat it as hummus?  Decisions ...

HM - I'm glad that the broadband is now working. Will you be able to manage the diabetes with medicine or do you have to give shots? When Ben's blood sugar was off, it turned out to be a testing error. It cost us about $1000 to find that out though, since they told us it could be a tumor causing the problem and we had to take him to a specialist.

HopesMom, by any chance, do you still have the Lipton pot pie recipe someone posted years ago? I know you saved me last time so I was hoping you do once again.

We have an appointment in a couple of hours to learn how to give Dusty shots.  I doubt it's a misdiagnosis for him, he's got obvious symptoms, and I'm not surprised at his age that it's not manageable with just oral medication.  But this is something we can do.

The broadband internet is kind of amazing.  Remind me when I'm taking it for granted that there was a time my connection to the world was slower than slow!

But for now, I think there should be more pics!

                          Good luck at the vet!

I have 8 with 3 @ HMP and a foam roller session with my Pilates instructor in Miami (via facetime). So excited! It's been 8 months and although I don't have a reformer (yet, waiting for the company to reopen), this should help getting back on track.

Docket, I've got that recipe, but I'm not sure where.  I know I have a printout, which I can scan and post, but not until Tuesday when I'm in the lab again.  Hmm, maybe I can take a picture of it and post it ...

                                Let's see, how's this?

I'm currently listening to something scrabbling around inside our walls.  It's very disconcerting.  Suspect a mouse, or a lizard.  Maggie brings in lizards and lets them go sometimes.

Dusty is feeling better, I think -- he's not drinking as much water, and he didn't have to make a trip out to pee last night.  He was a little more animated about chasing a squirrel.  Still, we're only two shots into this shindig.  Turns out DH has a smoother hand on a syringe than I do.
