Friday Penguins, in a hole in the ground ... (Read 8 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Today is National Hobbit Day.  Way back when, Rankin & Bass made an animated movie of The Hobbit.  My folks got the record and made tapes off it, and whenever we would go to the beach, we'd listen to the story on the way down, and sometimes on the way back too.  Audiobooks before there were audiobooks.

In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit.  Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, nor a dry, bare, sandy hole.  It was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort.

I could probably quote you the entire rest of the movie ... or at least certain lines that are legendary in my family's lexicon.

      "Ahh!  Eggs!!  Eggs, it is!!"

      "And my breath, DEATH!!!"

"The sun!  Blast it!  How could the morning come so soon?  We're done for!  AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!"

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Afternoon!  I finally feel better!  Yay!  Pilates and 7 with 3 @ HMP on my TM (hubby fixed it!) tonight.

Too bad my stomach still does not feel good enough for a second breakfast in honor of the hobbit day.

          Hope, I love the movies.

D - I hope your run went well.

HM - on one of our long hikes, I read the Hobbit out loud to Jim in the evenings. It really is a good one to be read aloud. The rest of the series, we read to ourselves.

I decided to do my long run today, since it's supposed to be hotter this weekend. I went to the state forest to do a shady 12.8 mile loop. Uphill for the first half, downhill for the last half.
