Thanks for your thoughts Julie.  With the exception of wearing a bib and getting a finishers medal and beer at the end, I hadn't really considered the Surf CIty HM to be a race.  I'm walking it.  I my wear my garmin.  I may not.  The maddening part is that my wife will be setting the pace.  I naturally walk faster than she does.  That will be the tough part.

Don't wear your Garmin and just go with it. Any event that has beer at the end is worth attending. Big grin

Hi team!  Hope everyone is having a good week.  Been a busy one at work.  Running has been good though.  I ran 4.5 miles both Tuesday and Wednesday at lunch.  Took yesterday off because I"m feeling a little head cold and it was raining at lunch and I figured that might make my sickness worse.  Today I'm off as well but heading about 2 hours south in the morning to run a 100k.  As I've probably said, not sure if I'm going to try and complete it.  We'll see how things go.  Main goal is to get in a good long run.  That shouldn't be a problem!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

      1/8/22 - Frosty 50k - 5:21:19 (strava)

      You Rang?

        100K  Wow that's a long way!

I'm coming down off the Disney induced high that was tWDW Half Marathon.  I'm back on the schedule, but I lost one day of running to a misdirected bag on the return flight from Orlando.  I knew that you are supposed to carry your running gear in your carry on bag on the flight to the race.  I didn't know that you are supposed to carry your gear in your carry on on the flight home too!

My next half marathon race is in September and seems so far away.  I'd race more often, but race day is rather disruptive to the rest of my non-running family.  I guess I need to put my nose back on the grindstone and keep training.  I'm due to pound down 5 miles in about an hour.

Hey Phil, what does your rehab look like? Will you be able to run? Take care of that knee, and don't push it too hard!

I have an ambitious (for me) weekend planned. I have a two and a half day weekend (MLK is technically a holiday, but I will probably go in at some point) and the weather is forecast to be just spectacular. Lows in the 40's, highs in the 60's, lots of sunshine. So I am going to take advantage. I have 7 on the schedule for tomorrow, 15 for Sunday, and 8 for Monday. I might eliminate or shorten the 8 on Monday if I am not feeling good, but I think it will be ok.

            Have a nice weekend!

Sorry. I hope that the rest does your shin good and that you are back up to full mileage soon.

7 miles for me today. Gorgeous weather.

Post-surgery, the first month will be stretching and strengthening.  Some light biking and elliptical will get mixed in after that.  No running until week 16, then it'll be light, gradual, and on a set schedule.  I won't be "set loose" until around month 5.

I do need surgery and they'll call to schedule within the next week.  I have a torn ACL, meniscus, and bone bruising (micro fractures).  Lots of elliptical and spin bike until surgery.  I'm hopeful that I'll be able to do some fall races.

Good luck with those runs this weekend, Julie!

Thanks.  Yeah, it really sucks.  But I've accepted it and now I just want to get through it.  This will be a year of surgery, recovery, and slowly building back up.  As far as running goes, it's a lost year.

15 miles today. Picture perfect weather and felt good. I have a 30K that I am running next weekend. I am going to treat it as a supported training run and not race it. I am a bit nervous, but felt good after 15, so I think I could do 3.6 more at my current level of fitness. it's gonna be tough though.

                          You Rang?

Nate:  I hope you heal quickly and that you can find another outlet for your cardio needs.

I did something rather interesting this morning.  My non-runnign wife serves as a volunteer at the races that I run.  This morning was the Tinker Bell Half at  Disneyland.  I did not run this half as I'd just raced last weekend in Orlando, and I'm chromosomally impaired.Instead I worked as a volunteer with my wife.

I arrived at Disneyland at 1:30 am.  in my pepto pink Tinker Belle volunteer shirt.  I was assigned to the finish line set up detail.  This means that my wife and i and 18 of our new best friends unwrapped 14,000 finishers medals and placed them on hooks.  From there, I stood and placed medals around the necks of runners as they finished.  It was amazing to see the wide variety of reactions.  I got everything from tears, to hugs (ewww!), to pictures, tofolks who I put the medal in their hand and they put it in their pocket.  I also had one guy take the medal from me and put it around his wife's neck upon the completion of her first half marathon.

It also seemed that the faster the runner ran the race, the less likely they were to care about the medal.  Although most people wore the medal, the  1:30 to 2:00 people  were more likely to pocket the medal than those in the middle or back of the pack.  Two people tried to steal medals.  We were instructed to give a medal only to runners with bibs.  Two people approached me wearing running clothes and mylar runDisney blankets.  I asked to show me their bibs and they replied that they "fell off" on the course.  I asked security to escort them to runner relations to sort this out and never saw them again.

I put a medal around the neck of Sean Astin (actor), Jim Doti, the president of my alma mater, friends from the running club, and countless other people.  The day flew by  and by 9:45 am. the last runner crossed the finish line.  My wife and staggered up to the parking structure, collected our two free tickets to Disneyland, fought the crowd out of the parking structure, came home, and took a nap.  This experience showed me just how much work goes into one of these events.

I intended to run 10-13 miles today, but I'm beat. 22 miles to the running game this week.  My next race is the Surf City Half which I'm walking with my wife.  Should be interesting.

Rick, I think it is awesome that you volunteered, and what a cool event! I have to know - what time (approximate of course) did Sean Astin come in?

8 miles for me today. I logged 30 for the week and did 30 over the three day weekend. I am bushed.
