Race swag (Read 151 times)

My medal from the Jerusalem Marathon. Medals were given only to finishers. Every time I see it, I marvel that I actually completed a marathon.

    Ball of Fury

I somehow placed 3rd for females in the Indiana Spartan Sprint last year, and my "trophy" was a log carved into a Spartan head!  Also received a huge beer bottle as a trophy when our team won a trail race...too bad it was empty!

. But the damn conch keeps falling off and I don't know what glue to use now. I've tried them all and nothing seems to work for more that a few weeks. Grrr... I guess I should just take it down and use it as a paper holder...

Lily, get yourself some of this at Michael's or a craft/scrapbooking store. I am the crafting

        Queen, I know my stuff!LOL

It's the best adhesive prodcut you could ever buy. Especially good on metal or any hard surface.

Takes about 24 hours to dry but once it's dry you aren't ever getting it unstuck!LOL

AG awards:  I used to only go to the races that offered them when I started running!  (2011).  And since I run 40-50 races a year now, I have no need for any more of them!   Race swag (Medals, etc) used to be the premire reason I would pick a race.   Nowadays?  Unimportant.   And I am a minimalist after all.  I am only 39, and already asking myself questions like "What are people going to do with these things when I croak?!"   (By the time I go, I want to have nothing left that folks have to get rid of, except simply some cash to be distributed of course..  Aren't I nice?)     Big grin

A couple things I really do want though:  The nice medal from the JFK-50 mile race, any "belt buckles" that you get for finishing 100 miles in a race, and also Mandy's Kettle from the Kettle Moraine 100. Approve

And from the "30 in 52" website, look at this great collection of belt buckles they achieved in one year!  I especially like the Georgia Jewel one for some reason.

Best swag I ever got was two movie passes in the goodie bag.  It almost made up the entire entry fee for the race.  If you include the race shirt (which actually wasn't printed for that particular event, it was a leftover from a previous race) I actually came out ahead on that deal.

As it turns out, that race shirt became my favorite race shirt of all.  It's just now reaching it's tattered retirement... but I'll never throw it away.

I cannot find the picture but I won an AG award at a trail 5K two years ago and the award was a very nice beer glass.  I still have it (meaning the cats or husband have not destroyed it yet).

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Here's my conch (I don't know why, but I giggle everytime I say this).

I also won a $500 gift certificate at a hotel in Nassau. But that was a prize from a draw.

I got $100 cash for winning my age group at a 5K last weekend. That's kind of hard to beat.
