Return To Racing

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here.

Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."

It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

        Hi Pens.

It is cold here as well, Jerry. It's all the way down to 43 now but it should warm up to 60. Smile  SRD for me and u will check all of my stuff and carb load food for the thousandth time.

        Have a good day.

        Zelanie

Morning!  Down to 18 degrees today, with snow forecast for tomorrow.  Yikes!

Jerry- Hope that the seminar is worthwhile.

Jack- You can just stop talking about cold now. Roll eyes

          Barking Mad To Run

Crazy Texas weather.  Today our temperature starts dropping.  So I went this morning to do my run/walk at the university campus.  6:30 a.m, temp of 65 degrees, very humid, dewpoint of 70 degrees.  About halfway done, the temperature started to drop and the wind picked up too, to about 20 mph.   I did 3.2 quick and easy miles on the campus and by the time I was done, it was less humid and the temp had dropped to 59 degrees.. 6 degrees less.in a freakin' half-hour!   By the time I get off of work today - 4 pm - it is supposed to be light drizzle with a temp of 42.  Tomorrow's high will be only 39.  We'll be cold over the weekend and then on Mon-Tues, back into the 60s.   Crazy Texas weather.

Is this a seminar you will enjoy, Jerry?    Single digits!  At least San Antonio area does not have it that cold, thank goodness!

When is this race, Jack?  You might be a basket case before the day finally gets here!  Wink

Good luck with YOUR weather, Zelanie.  Break out the snow blower!

            Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  I had quartet rehearsal last night, which was all kinds of nice.  It was great to see my girls again, and also great to be singing again.  I'm not quite back in full voice, but I'm close, and we didn't sound too bad for me being way out of practice.  Tonight I have a performance with my chorus, which is going to be REALLY interesting.  We're doing some Christmas music, and I haven't practiced with my chorus in about 3 weeks.  So I have the quartet versions of the songs firmly set in my head, and they're mostly slight different than the chorus versions.  Time for some review cramming!!

              Jerry -- stay warm!!

Jack -- yeah, we're supposed to hit 65 today.  I'm loving it!!

Zelanie -- don't get buried in the snow!!

scotty -- that's definitely crazy weather!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                Hello all.

Jerry - Don't get too bored.

Jack - enjoy your rest day.

Melanie - That weather is much too cold and nasty to run in. You should stay inside where it is warm.

Scott - At least your weather is better than here.

                HM - Enjoy the singing.

AFM - I will run tonight unless it is icy. They are forecasting freezing rain and sleet tonight and all day tomorrow. I can't run on a sheet of ice.

The funny things that kids do. My daughter is supposed to wear her pajamas backwards and flush a cube of ice down the toilet in order to assure snow tonight.

Morning all. My weather don't change much. But it's the monsoon so we get lots of rain.

Ran an undetermined distance at my in law place just now. Probably 4miles? Need to map it later.

Was on a week leave and it's nearly over. Boo~

Morning! We have highs in the single digits and lows well below zero from now until Sunday. RD for me today, but I'm already thinking about my Saturday long run, with a high of 1 that day... Stay warm, penguins!

                          Morning penguins!

Hey ya Mr. Jerry and Jack!

                          Zelanie-- please bundle up!

Scotty-- yuck @ that wind blowing in the snow.

Hopesmom-- glad you're back to singing rehearsals.  That's definitely a good sign.

Obie-- talking about crazy weather, yours sure is crazy cold.  I just don't know how you do it, brrrr!

Its 44*, rainy and windy here today.  So glad it's a SRD.  I'm thinking I may put up the Christmas tree.  Haven't decided for sure though.

Morning!  Back from asthma doctor appointment.  No improvement, bah.  No major reduction either, so it's good, but 55% capacity is still lower than I want.  SRD or a short run.

Bin, not sure.  It depends on what they end up taking out.  Uterus?  4 weeks, Fibroids?  3.  Everything?  Could be 3 months.

Damaris- Overall it sounds like your asthma is much better for the year though.  Am I right?

Decided not to race this weekend.  I need to get me training back to a consistent schedule, and the hills at the turkey trot ticked off my achilles.  I am looking at a January 1st Resolution 5k.

                              From the Internet.

Hi pens! Busy Thursday, about to pop over to the gym for a few minutes between experiments - trying to spend as little time as possible, so a brisk walk to the gym will have to suffice in place of my treadmill warmup run.

Cutting back a little bit this week. A few days ago Mitch suggested that I make sure to get a cutback week in while I'm trying to build my mileage up and that made me think about how tired I was and how busy I'd be this week, haha Smile In lieu of intensity/distance I did try running back-to-back days, which I haven't tried since July. 2.25 miles on Tuesday (treadmill) and 2.15 Wednesday (pavement), so far so good. Will probably do 3ish tomorrow and 3-4 in place of my usual 5 on Sunday.
