The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Good Morning and happy Spring.  Not much on my agenda, just a lot of March Madness.

Thanks for starting us off Jerry.  Enjoy the b-ball.

I had a really nice run last night.  I think part of the problem that I've had with training lately is that I've been running too fast in my easy runs.  I backed down to 10 minute miles last night, and just knocked out 6 miles.  I think this will improve my quality runs, and allow me to get in a few extra miles overall in these last couple of weeks before the Oak Barrel Half.  In other great news, I'm down 8 pounds in the last 2 weeks.  That can't do anything, but help.  I'm just making smarter choices on the road, and I've cut out alcohol on the weekends and during business meetings.  I'm determined to post a decent time, even if it isn't a PR.  I told myself that I wasn't going to worry about my time, but the closer it gets, the more goal driven I become.  I can't help it.

8.6 last night with hills, big hills, training hills, for Whiskey Hill. Tonight is maybe some easy miles, but I have to go do some of the race timing stuff first. We have 140 people registered for our first 5k, stuffed about 200 packets yesterday. I also need to pick up the trailer with all the timing equipment.

Anson, did you see my FB post about the hill?

            Barking Mad To Run

Weight training circuit yesterday after work, an hour and 10 minutes, full body workout, light weights and 2 sets of 10 reps on each machine.  I have been goofing off in this area, haven't done it for the last couple of weeks, so my old muscles are now screaming at me after the workout yesterday.  Well, they'll get get used to it again, just gotta stay more consistent.    Another beautiful day in San Antonio today.  It's near 60 degrees right now and we are heading for sunny and 75 degrees today.  Plan on doing one of my hillwork routes today after work.

Also got some good news/bad news from my doc.  He called me yesterday, said they got the results of my polyps biopsy back.  The good news is that they were 'pre-cancerous" which means, he told me, they are the type that, if they had not been found and "excised", had about an 80% chance of developing into cancer.  So he told me once again I have 'beat cancer" - this time before it even got started, lol - by 'early detection.' The bad news, he said, is because of this I can't get a colonoscopy every 10 years, I have to remain on the every 5 years plan. Well, I think I can live with that.  Literally.

Great news Scotty.  5 years isn't too bad for the next one.

                    Good new Scotty.

                    A few weights tonight.

                    Barking Mad To Run

Enjoy your BB, Jerry, hope your chosen team does well.  Personally, I'm not much of a basketball fan....can't watch it on TV, it bores me that way (same thing for me with baseball on TV too), I have to be at the game in person to really enjoy it.  Yeah, that 5 years seems to go by pretty quick and then I get all the fun of prepping again!

What you need to do, Awood, is find someone like me locally in your area to run with once a week.  And then stick with that person at his/her pace for the whole run.   Cuz if you run at MY pace, lol, believe me that WILL be your SLOW EASY run for the week, you won't have to worry about running fast at all!

Wow, 140 for your first race is pretty good, Mitch!  Sounds like you are going to have a successful event.  Congrats on the hills, BIG hills.  That's my agenda for after work today..hills and more hills.

Need to plant the garden!  Hoe, Hoe, Hoe, PAD!

Pad - I wish it was garden season here.

Hey pens.  The concert was good last night.  Everything from choral music to Wrecking Ball to Man of Constant Sorrow.  Plus the kids always look like they've having a blast.

Zoe is likely coming home today!  They will call sometime this morning to schedule pick up with DH.  Hopefully I will get my 6 in before they're back.

Jerry- Enjoy the madness!  That's so frustrating that your xray results are still in.  When I went in last year, they had my xrays up by the end of my appointment.

Awood- I've slowed way down in my easy runs this year.  I'm not sure if it's helping or not, but it does seem to make it easier for me to get faster for my speed work.  Nice job getting the weight headed in the right direction.  I'm still hovering around just a tad higher than I want to be, but it's hard to find the momentum to turn it around.

Scotty- That's so good that you're diligent about going in so that you got to beat cancer again before it even knew what hit it!

PAD- Good luck in the garden!  I don't think we'll have one this year since I'll be gone all summer and DH might not be too crazy about tending it.  But we'll see.  Maybe I'll plant some tomatoes and carrots that I'll be back in time to eat. Smile

Mitch- I hope your race goes really well! Smile
