Week 21 Penguins, the original goths! (05/23-05/30) (Read 7 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Well, you know, they wear black.  And white.  Anyway, today is World Goth Day, so break out your rivets and leather and black eyeliner!  Or not.  I made some apple cinnamon muffins for breakfast, and now I'm doing laundry, and will then probably clean the bathrooms.  Such excitement.  But I did want to get the Penguin thread started today, because we're doing later church tomorrow, so I'll be scrambling a little to get home from church, eat lunch, and get to quartet practice.  I doubt I'll have time to check in.

I was a bit frustrated with work yesterday -- my supervisor was doing something herself that any one of the rest of the three of us could've done, which would've freed up a couple of hours for her to do stuff only she can do.  But since she was doing that, I was left kind of twiddling my thumbs because I needed her to show me how to do something -- it took about 15 minutes, once I got her attention, but I couldn't move on without knowing it.  So basically, in my infinite wisdom, I would've arranged her day better if I'd been in charge!    My supervisor is awesome, but not that great at delegating sometimes.  Well, as I learn more, I'll be able to make better suggestions of "Would you like me to do that for you?" or "Would it help if I took that on?"  I'm learning in leaps and bounds, and things are continuing to shift slowly to me taking on more stuff.  It's all good, just occasionally frustrating.  And we have a new hire starting next month, I think, so that'll get even crazier!

Oh, the Penguins will be right at home on Goth Day!

I ran 10 on the TM today and I had Pilates class. I felt good today so I did my LR so that tomorrow I don't regret it if I feel bad.

HopesMom, although I don't supervise people, in Miami it was hard for me to delegate to the paralegals because they were not trained as paralegals (they do other stuff like trustee supervision, trustee TDRs and TFR - documents filed in bankruptcy, etc.) so I ended up just doing the stuff myself because it was faster, ha.

HM - I thought your supervisor was out of town. Is she back again? Sounds like you had a productive day today. Enjoy your Sunday activities.

D - good idea, taking advantage of feeling good to run longer so tomorrow can be easy. It's nice to not have to stick to a strict schedule and run more by how you feel.

Warm and humid here, so my run was a slog, though the temperature wasn't that bad. Today was my Dad's memorial service. I didn't intend to go, as I'm not keen on flying right now, but I never received the information on when and where exactly it was happening so it was an easy decision to make. My stepmother assumed that word would be passed along, but that is always a bad assumption in my family.

Yes, my supervisor was out of town for two weeks and got back last Monday.  So probably part of her issue is catching up, and I should be a bit more understanding.  I was grumpy, I guess, which carried over into Saturday, unfortunately.  I got some stuff done, but not as much as I wanted.  I did bake some apple cinnamon muffins, which have made their way into the office today, so it's all good.  And I'm (hopefully) fixing my issues from Thursday, we'll see how it goes when I analyze the data tomorrow.  Woo-hoo!

Ginny, I'm sorry about missing your dad's service.  We were lucky enough to have a family member zoom my grandmother's service for us, but we missed DH's aunt's in WA altogether.  She'd wanted to be buried at their ranch next to her husband, and they weren't exactly set up for wifi out there.  Anyway, you definitely have my sympathies.

Afternoon! RD for me today and I had Pilates class at lunch (she is heading to Mexico to finally get married after suspending it last year).

Ginny, ugh. Even if you weren't going they should've let you know.

HopesMom, those apple cinnamon muffins sound delicious.

All day rain here, so I ended up running 8 on the TM. We're heading out of town for a couple of days to celebrate our anniversary, just driving into the mountains and staying at an inn. We've never spent much time in that area (Ohiopyle), so it should be fun. We did hike about 2/3 of the Laurel Highlands Trail about 20 years ago, so at least we know the mountains are worth visiting.

                  Happy anniversary, Ginny!!

Nothing much new here -- running samples, analyzing data, etc.  I have my last choir practice of the season tonight, and then we take a break for summer.  I'm thinking that by fall we should be indoors again, which will be a relief, since the high today is 92.  I brought a pair of shorts and Tevas to change into after work, so I'm not sweating in jeans and Chucks during our outdoor practice.

My chorus is not practicing in person yet, but it's coming.  Not soon enough!  I'm glad my quartet is back in person.  Music over zoom is just not much fun!

Morning! I ran 5 on the TM yesterday and went to PT (one more PT session and I'm done!). 8 and weights today.

HopesMom, have fun with the choir today.

                    Ginny, nice 8.

                    Singer who runs a smidge

I'm having a surprisingly busy week this week, and a surprisingly busy Friday, given that half my office took the day off.  Which is fine by me, I'd rather be busy if I'm at work than be putzing around looking for stuff to do.  But I am definitely looking forward to my weekend!!

I may have a little work to do over the weekend -- I told my supervisor I'd be around and wasn't going anywhere, so if I'm needed, I might get pulled in.  I'll be able to flex that time out later, so I'm ok with that, especially since I'll be working from home if I'm needed at all.  It's all good.

I could use a massage ... I might have to put some thought into that one!

I had a busy week as well. Graduated PT today and went for a rainy, windy, cold run for 5.25 today.

                        HopesMom, get a massage!

Congrats on finishing PT!  Of course, now you have to keep up with the exercises, or at least that's what I've found.  It's cold and windy here today too, and likely to rain.  "Cold" being a relative term, of course.  Cold enough to skip the AC and open the windows!!

Planning on a little yoga later.  Woo-hoo!
