Heading out to run right now and its 17 degrees here. I'm just so excited to now say I am training for a full freaking marathon and at BOSTON of all places! Just wanted to share my excitement!! I can hardly contain it.

    Running is my mental-Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Heh, heh, heh.  That's like the excitement on the first day of graduate school.  It wears off soon enough.

              Short term goal: 17:59 5K

              Mid term goal:  2:54:59 marathon

Long term goal: To say I've been a runner half my life.  (I started running at age 45).

Hmm, training through the winter may be better than in the searing heat and stuffy humidity of July & August, which blows.

Haha as I approach my last semester of grad school I can attest to this. Monday is technically week one of training. Im following an eighteen week plan, though it will be tweaked as I am already at a good base going in.

I agree Rick I would much rather train in the cold than the blazing heat for my training. Its tough to get up early as it is and I don't enjoy running before 7am. No thanks.

I will take the heat over our winters because I can wake up early and run in the 70's usually on the hottest days here. When it snows like it may on Sunday I have to negotiate sidewalks where not everyone shovels. Our main roads (lots of traffic since I'm near Boston) have no shoulder because we have those sidewalks. Fortunately this week I can do my long run before the snow starts. I am also not far from the Boston course surface roads which they plow well so I expect to be driving there on occasion for my long runs.

Yeah but that is not heat, RSX!

I find training better than the race. I think I race just to train.  Have fun!

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

I never want to do a long fall race again. Doing 13 mile long runs in 96 degree heat was not my idea of fun last summer.

Yeah the only thing I hate about running in the winter is the build up of snow and ice on my usual routes. I may have to travel to find clearer roads. I'll do what I have to though.

Good luck with your training! Smile
