Wildlife Wednesday Penguins!! (Read 7 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

So DH and Dusty had I had a lovely run this morning, doing mailbox fartleks, upper 50's, clear, basically ideal running conditions (to me, anyway).  Good times were had by all.  Then as I was walking a bit of a cooldown, I saw something glinting on the asphalt in the light of my headlamp.  Must be a piece of mica in the stone, I thought to myself.

      Nay, not so!!

When I got closer, I saw it was a freaking big-ass spider, so large that my headlamp was showing up its EYESHINE!!!

I do NOT like spiders!!  I gave it a wide berth, hurried home, and slammed the door!  Of course Dusty and DH were laughing at me, although they both agreed it was quite a large spider.

Sick and wrong, I tell you!!    (This is not a facepalm, it's me hiding my eyes.)

Fuck no.  I am afraid of spiders.  I've gotten better and not run away as fast as I can but there are no giant spiders down here, so there is that.

I have Pilates and 4-5 miles tonight.  We are most likely off work Thursday and Friday as the hurricane enters Florida, but still unsure as to what will happen to my flight on Saturday.  FFS.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

            Return To Racing

5.5 on the bike path.  A little humid but really nice out.  Had to cancel SRD.  Pickleball class this afternoon so I'll skip work.

              Barking Mad To Run

Nice run/walk after work yesterday. Started at Tri-Point YMCA, of which I am a member, and then a loop through Brackenridge Park and then around the Zoo area. Temp was around 89 with a 'feels like' of 92...but it really did not feel that bad at all. I got in 3.2 miles.

Brought my stuff to work today to run after work again, but have not made up my mind where I will run yet. I do have to go out to Dominion I Run running store to pick up my packet for Saturday's 5K. Man, I hate driving that I-10 West after work, traffic is just crazy at that time of day in that direction. I Run needs to move their store closer to where I work.
