Lazy Long Weekend Penguins (Read 18 times)

Brilliant

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

It's 2:42 PM here and I can't find the weekend thread; are my eyes cheated by some spell? Wink  I thought everyone was being lazy but maybe you are all out running!

Congratulations Lauren!  You can be lazy today; you deserve it!

I ran 17.8 this morning, ugh.  The last 2 miles were really hard which is why I didn't bother looping around for the extra .2.  I haven't gone farther than 14 or so since March.  And I have a marathon in 29 days.

Brilliant - 17.8 is great, especially given the lack of long runs this cycle.  Will you do one more before tapering?

I ran 6.4 on a cool windy dark day.  I really wasn't sure I wanted to run outside, but it's going to be really cold next week so I'll have my fill of the TM.

        Brilliant

Ginny, good to avoid the TM when you can.

Yes, I'll try for 18 or so again next weekend.  I am sorely underprepared for this marathon, but at this point it is what it is.  (when I finished the 17.8 this morning I thought: "Dangit I need to run 8.4 MORE on Feb 14!"

          Penguin Power!

10.2 for me this morning. I think that's my longest post marathon run. My half marathon next weekend is going to be ... Interesting. Anyway - I am at an extended weekend board gaming shindig with 24 people hosted by my brother.  It is cool - we've rented a big house and have a private chef to make our meals.

Allison - I'm sure that the marathon will go better than your previous one because it should be less hot Smile

            Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

            Team TJ

5K family style this morning.  We weren't fast but we weren't last.

Running for TJ because he can't.

Congratulations Robert and T.J.!  I hope you had fun.

                  Return To Racing

I am missing a zero degree run due to a random ankle pain that started yesterday.  Feeling better today with ice.

It should be cold enough outside that you don't need to ice it Wink

I have been procrastinating on doing my 5ish miles for today. Blah.

                      From the Internet.

7 days off and I actually had a pain-free run today! Could it be that this stupid calf strain is finally healed?

Got out today for a nice relaxing 6+ in a gentle snowfall. Chances are the next couple of days will be TM days.

                          Barking Mad To Run

Late run/walk this morning at Randolph Air Force Base, started a bit after 10 a.m.    Sunny,  a bit windy, and around 42 degrees with a 'feels like' of 39, a bit chillier than yesterday.  Thought I might have overdressed for my outing, but when I was running into that wind, I was glad that I had worn a light base layer under my short-sleeved running shirt.   Was feeling pretty good once I got out there so decided to keep going for a while.  Ended up with 5 miles in 55:58.  Not speedy, by any means, but 2 minutes faster for me than my last 5 mile outing when I did the Buffalo Hump 5 miler.  I was happy with that.

Hi, guys.  Spent a lot of time with my dad this week so I never really ran much.  Ran 7 outside today in 26mph winds (40 mph gusts) in the middle of the day which never happens in South Florida because the sun is too brutal to even go outside.  Today, the sun was absent until my last mile.  It was a nice change.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

SRD for me.  There was a light snow for a while, but nothing serious.  The next two days are going to be brutally cold, so I'll be running indoors.
