Training for a road half on trails -- long run question? (Read 47 times)

LRB

Should I prioritize intervals or goal pace runs?

Ideally, it would be both, but it is really an individualistic thing. I tend to lean towards intervals for the bulk of my quality but that is because I prefer to run at the faster end of training paces. That said, there is a definite benefit to goal pace runs and/or steady state segments within runs, and I am sure to include those as well.

While I do not think you can go wrong with either, I would recommend doing the one that appeals to you most. The thinking there is if you want to do it, you actually look forward to it and are inclined to do it again. And where speed work is concerned, repetition breeds improvement.

Thanks for all of your help.  I think for now what I'll do is move the long runs to the paved paths, and keep them at the Hanson's "moderate aerobic" pace.  Midweek I'll do some intervals just because I like flying for short distances more than tempo runs, and the rest of the time I'll take it easy on the trails.
